have a look at the VRT website, they have a forum page which is answered by someone who knows what they are talking about. I asked them this same question, as long as the car was imported as a car and the VRT paid as such, you have no worries, if it was registered as a commercial, then you have to pay the difference in the VRT. More importantly, the rear seat belt attachment points will have been put beyond use (or should have been) which if you're wanting to put the back seats in will be a real pain in the arse! I decided not to as there is too much work involved, good luck.

More than likely not worth the expense.

When we bought our 4x4 we got the back seats, belts and all the necessary bits and pieces with it. It was originally a passenger that was converted down south before the VRT was paid on it (as a commercial). Even though we now own it, and have all the parts to turn it back into a passenger, the last time I checked we'd have had a VRT bill of €7k. Could have kept the commercial and bought a '01 passenger instead of paying the VRT on the one we have, so I'd suggest your customer do their sums first before proceeding with the work.

They'll have to source all the parts (seats, brackets, belts etc.) pay you for your time/labour, pay VRT ... in many cases it simply doesn't make financial sense to convert a commercial to a passenger.

Edit to add - there'll be private tax rates to be paid too. ;)
