NAS vs Cloud backup

Also posted on the Mac forum.

Me head is melted with this!:o:D

Been looking at NAS and was thinking of this device. I have two available 1TB HDDs, but, as it would be onsite, if anything happened (breakdown or fire) then that would be it.

I've looked at Justcloud and they're offering (if you take it for two years) unlimited storage for E4.99 a month.

The NAS will cost E180 and I'll probably have to up the HDDs at some point. My main backup would come to around 160GB in total (at present).

Just cloud appears to be the most popular cloud backup.

Just wondering about security/privacy, etc. All suggestions/observations welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

    well each will have benifits...

NAS will allow you to have access to the physical hard drive..
NAS will also have faster transfer speeds as it won't rely on the bottle neck speed of your internet connection.
NAS is a once off payment not paying per month
Cloud benefits is you can access it from anywhere but you have no control over the files if the company goes bust or the sever is down.

personally i'd get the NAS drive then get free cloud storage..from google or someone else you usually get 5GB then put a full backup on the NAS drive and upload the most important items on the cloud aswell..

The goflex NAS from Seagate can be accessed anywhere through www.seagateshare.com

I think you're more worried about hardware failure though, so in that case a mirrored backup device would be most suitable.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks like a fireproof box is the best bet!
