Spotted this article in the Irish Times.

I have a bit of a problem with it....

I'm not saying that the first thing you should do on a foreign excursion is head straight for the Irish bar.

But I think its a bit much to say "avoid other Irish people" when you are living or travelling abroad.

Are we that bad? That we want to avoid each other?

I'd tie this thing into the low self esteem issue that the Lonely Planet spoke about.....that the Irish think foreigners are better than them. personally I believe there is some truth in this, and it annoys me.

From my own experience of backpacking for a year overseas, I did notice that Irish people were often distinctly unimpressed at meeting other Irish people, but would be all over an Australian or an American.....

They're all just people at the end of the day. I certainly wouldnt avoid someone just because they are irish, no matter where I was in the world.
