Would you consider doing it yourself? All you need is an external harddrive to backup pics/docs etc and depending on your computer, the wipe and recover process could be as easy as pressing f10 or f12 on boot.
Read up before you do it though!

+1 If its a software issue you should just reintall the OS. What's the make & model.

There's a PC/LT repair place in Raheen, just up the road from Raheen Church, beside Willow Hair Salon.

The battery on the 1520 is known for giving trouble. You can buy a new one on ebay for around €25 shipped. Second hand ones are hit and miss imo.

This one has a 3 year warranty:

If you want the OS reinstalled then I recommend installing Windows 7 instead of Vista, even Microsoft are embarrassed these days of Vista.

Funny thing about Dell computers. You can use any of their discs with any of their computers. If you had a windows 7 disc it will work, as would a xp disc.

Not strictly true .. it may install but the OS activation is successful depending on an algorithm run against the Service Tag of the system.
I've installed / reinstalled hundreds of PC's - lots of em Dells.

Is true most of the time though ... :)

That's Billy Murphy's place. He used to be out in Castletroy opposite the Hurlers. Highly recommended!
He'll look after you for very reasonable rates. :):)

What do you use on your PC? Its its for web browsing, office documents etc, you could try Linux Mint.

Don't be put off by the whole Linux thing. The newer versions are very quick and easy to install for non tech people and they have great support for all the laptop hardware. You just download, burn to disk and the rest is automatic.

For basic web browsing and word processing/spreadsheets/presentations your laptop will fly with this on:

I installed this on the parents PC, they always struggled with Windows and find it easier.
