The Prayer Mobile

I came up with this idea ( of course while driving :D ) that: Wouldnt it be a nice idea to have a ''Prayer Mobile''?. Like a Huge van all dressed up inside like an Oratory where people can come in and sit before the Divine presence of Our Lord in The Blessed Sacrament for an hour or two.

The Mobile could be driven from estate to estate to visit those who are housebound and too sick to make it to the Divine Liturgy. If they cannot attend the Divine Liturgy then we bring the Divine Liturgy to them. If they are too sick to attend adoration and leave their house then we bring adoration of The Blessed Sacrament to them.

Just an idea. And everyone is welcome to discuss the pros and cons that would possibly go with it.

Sorry Onesimus, a quick question, not to derail your thread but just out of curiosity: is Adoration practised in your Eastern Catholic parish?

Slav, some Eastern Catholics have adoration and other EC parishes do not have it. Some see it as a Latinization ( which is a shame as I dont see it that way or that anything is wrong with Adoring Christ in the Eucharist Specifically when it is endorsed by Our Lady herself and many saints down through the centuries ) and some EC parishes dont view it this way at all.

My parish in Dublin ( of which I rarely visit due to being so so far away ) doesnt have it because they celebrate Liturgy just once a week and special feasts too.

Ya, a church on wheels is the last thing people want to see.

It's not the worst idea, Might be better to revive the old tradition of the stations, no?
Just a thought, maybe they don't need reviving, anyone know if it still is practiced anywhere?
Heres an idea of what the stations is for anyone wondering.

I'm not sure how spacious a van would be for this. Although a similar concept has happened already. There's a church-boat moored along by Canary Wharf in London.

Appalling idea, I'm afraid. The eucharist is not something to be carted around from place to place for our convenience. Theologically, this is a deeply disturbing idea.

Priests already carry the Eucharist around to those in Hospital and those who are housebound. Plus we've often done street processions of the Eucharist around the town with the local Cardinal taking the lead.

I dont see anything wrong with it theologically in that sense. Jesus would often ''go'' to the people who were not able to come to him. And even if they were able he would still go them regardless.

But hey I'm beginning to think it really wouldnt be a good idea and perhaps your right. Was just an idea though.

Does that still happen in Ireland?

Yes it does. Probably not to the extent that they used to but definitely on the feast of Corpus Christi in some parishes.

This is mostly done nowadays by Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. But it's important to understand that (a) this is always for the purpose of receiving Holy Communion, and (b) this is an intrinsic part of the mass - extraordariny ministers are sent out from mass to do this. In other words, this is an ordinary part of the community's collective eucharistic celebration - not a case of the eucharist being driven around the place to be conveniently available for people's private devotions.

A standard devotion for Corpus Christi (except, of course, that not every parish has a "local cardinal"). But, again, this is a communal devotion of the parish, it starts and ends at the church and it is linked with a mass.

Adoration of the blessed sacrament is not an example of Jesus "going" to the people. Participation in the eucharist involves attending mass, and preferably receiving communion in the context of the mass. Adoration of the blessed sacrament is a private devotion which is fitting where the eucharist is being kept for its liturgical purpose. But I think bringing the eucharist around in the equivalent of an ice-cream van crosses a line.
