After a terrible xmas week in the west, with shocking weather herself and I decided to splash out next year and hit the Caribbean.

Has anyone any tips of where to go and who to go with etc

    Thanks

Really depends on the budget and what kind of standard you want. I recommend Dreams in the Dominican, the DR is a bit cheaper than some other countries in the Caribbean.

Have done both DR and Cuba for Xmas. It really depends on budget and what you like doing on holidays which island would suit you best.

What types of things do you like to do on holiday?

honestly - we both like to do very little, but our ( by then 3.5 year old ) will need something to keep in from burning the place down !

Where we went was a place you could do both. You could do lots of stuff and you could do nothing. They ran a schedule of entertainment both day and night for adults and kids, but you could ignore it and sit in your room and order the free room service or swim around a quiet area of the gigantic pool.

It was quite isolated so you wouldn't leave the hotel but it was like a little village with 9 apartment blocks and 7 restaurants. Food and drink was included at all times of the day and you didn't need to book or wear a wrist band to go to the restaurant.

Here is the place we stayed, I would recommend: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g147293-d508162-Reviews-Dreams_Punta_Cana-Punta_Cana_Dominican_Republic.html
