Looking for help on this as haven't had much joy with vodafone. Got a samsung galaxy mini on prepay - having being stung the first day I got the phone (used all credit) I now have 3g turned off and only use internet in wifi areas. The problem is when someone sends me a multimedia msg I have to turn 3g on and am being charged vodafones 99c per day 50mb usage - just to open a message. I have never being charged this on previous phones - this doesn't sound normal but it's my 1st android.
    cheers

You aren't being charged for the mms, you are been charged because something else is using the data in the backround

Ok - can I change settings or something to prevent this or is it the case that background data updates regardless when internet access is on ?

You can turn off background data by using the power control widget. It's the icon that looks like two arrows forming a circle. It's a good widget to keep on your main homescreen imo.

You can also turn off mobile data, and not 3G entirely by turning off "Mobile Network" in "Wireless & networks".
