Sent my car through the NCT to day (passed). collected the car after the test drove home..only when i got home and parked the car. i noticed the guy testing the car never closed the bonnet properly. he left the thing sitting, rather then click it down, locking it in position. now i was driving 80kmh on the way home and the thing could easily have blown open..im tempted to call up and complain..is it worth the bother? anyone else come across similar stupidity by these people?

No harm ringing up with some constructive criticism, it might not happen to someone else then.

Exact same thing happened to me, I noticed the bonnet bouncing around on the motorway driving home! I didn't do anything about it, didn't think there was much point, much like anything else in this god-forsaken place.

It couldn't have blown open, the safety catch wouldn't allow that. It was a mistake, and I would ring up and complain. It's hardly a reason to rubbish the whole NCT, though, if that's where you're going with this.

Email a complaint to them via their website nct.ie. That sort of carelessness could have caused a bad accident. AND when you get your nct done next time, go to a different test centre if that's feasable. Just in case the guy you are complaining remembers you:D

Tell that to the chap I ordered a new bonnet for before Christmas. He left the NCT Centre at Northpoint and went straight onto the M50, a few miles later his bonnet flew open and folded over his car. NCT paid for the repairs and gave him a few quid by way of apology

this is why i wont complain. but if it happens as often as people seem to be saying.... one day it will cause a serious accident.

This happened to me in Northpoint too, wonder where the OP's test was.

Assuming the safety catch isn't worn down or otherwise faulty... but then it would have failed the NCT.... right?

Did it ever occur to you that attitudes like yours make this such "a God forsaken place?" Whine and complain down the pub but be sure to do nothing about it, shur that's the Irish way. :D
