I think I got the name right. Does anyone know anything of this, just outside Killarney on the Tralee line on an old map and shown as RESTRICTED

Fitzgerald Platform on Tralee side of Killarney Station. Served the nearby GAA stadium.

Interestingly while checking on Osi.ie I discovered a ballast pit on the other side of the line from Fitzgerald Stadium that I had either forgotten or never known about.

40¼ 41.84 FITZGERALD PLATFORM? Last updated:

There was a platform on the Down side which served a football stadium. On the Up side, there is a former ballast pit. This was served by a siding.

I had looked out for that platform before, no trace now. Must have been a spoil-and-sleepers effort. From the look of the entrance gates, Fitzgerald Stadium looks like it was built in the Thirties so the platform must date from that time.

There are, however, traces of the 'check' platform on the approach to Killarney. (Used in the days of compartment stock for checking of tickets.)

Fitzgerald Stadium was used for the AI Hurling Final in 1937 shortly after it was built, the locals wouldn't be interested at all so the platform must have been for special trains for the game :Dhttp://www.britishpathe.com/video/irish-hurling-final-at-killarney/query/hurling+killarney

Talking about Sports Events. I found details of a Special train from the Kanturk Newmarket branch....120 passngers from Newmarket...650 from Kanturk.

Where was it going? BANTEER SPORTS! Didn't even make double figures for mileage!
