Disable tap-to-click

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone can help me. My parents recently got a laptop and the tap-to-click was enabled on it. I noticed that they were accidentally clicked on stuff and then they were getting all confused and muddled up about how to use it. So I went into control panel and mouse and disabled the tap-to-click feature which was fine but every time they turn it the laptop on it's enables again. I've checked in control panel and it's still disabled there so I guess there must be somewhere else to disable it completely? It's not that big of a deal but I see them getting frustrated and they're only just learning how to use it so it just sets them back. It's a Samsung RV510 in case anyone else has it and knows how to disable it.

I've never had a Samsung and I'm on a Desktop so typing blind so to speak....few different things to try off the top of my head.

    1. Click Start--->any sign of Synaptics Software? If their is, have a look for a setting in there.

    2. Click Start--->any other software/control panel that looks like it may have a setting to adjust?

    3.
Down in the bottom right Corner, is their any Touchpad Icon there that you can right click on?

    4.
Their could be a hotkey to turn it off, try pressing Fn+F2 or Fn+F8 or Fn+F9, try different Fn combos, if you turn off something you need then just press that combo again.

    5. Bios or Device Manager may be worth a look but try the above first.

    http://www.samsung.com/ie/support/main/supportMain.do may have a fix.

An External Mouse is far easier to use.

Hey I tried all of these.

There was no synaptics software, but the touchpad is Elan Smartpad so I guess that's why.

There were a few other places to turn it off on the Elan but it only disables it for when the laptop is on at that time. When I restart it the tapping comes back on.

There is no touchpad icon at the bottom.

There is a hotkey for the touchpad but it turns the whole thing off and I only want the tapping turned off.

And I don't know what Bios is and I couldn't see Device Manager just devices and printers but the same in there.

I know an external mouse is easier but while my dad doesn't mind using one, my mam doesn't want to.

Ah well, thanks for your help anyway.

is it being shut down properly? Many pieces of software will not save changes correctly until they have been shut down in the right way.

I looked this up, I don't see a way to keep it off.:eek:

Did you try adjusting the sensitivity, it may give an acceptable tap pressure?

You could try (long shot), clicking start--->type msconfig into the box and then see if it has it's own process under the service or startup tab, it's doubtful though...that that perticular function will have it's own one.

services.msc is another one you could type in.

Don't turn off anything that you're not sure of.

    Thanks Avalanche,
I'm actually not in parents anymore so I can't try them at the moment but I'll try them next time I'm home. Fingers crossed!
