Can anyone recommend shallow brake pads?

I recently acquired a set of wheel with a (ridiculously!) shallow brake surface - it is 8mm deep. The brake pads I am using on that bike are SwissStop green ones and these are 11mm deep which is posing a problem. It's not a real problem yet, but as the pads wear I'm going to end up with brake pad bearing directly against the lower section of rim and that could get "interesting" over time.

Rather than take a knife to the lower edge of the SwissStops, can anyone recommend shallow brakepads? I've not actually measured the Campag pads on my other bike yet, but I'm not holding out much hope of them being particularly shallow. Pictures of KoolStop pads suggest they may be shallow but I've not seen them in the flesh so I'm not sure.

    Thanks.

I presume you mean the contact area between the pad and rim.
I use these -> http://www.discobrakes.com/?s=0&t=2&c=25&p=285& and I just measured them and they are deffo under 10mm and very possibly 8mm and I find them a great pad as well.

Thanks bcmf, yes it's the contact area that I mean. Those ones look interesting, now I've got to figure out whether they'll work with pre-2000 (9sp) Campag cartridges as well as 11sp - why can't life be simple? :(

Now thats a tricky one. If you are anywhere near North County you are welcome to try them.
You may be better off buying the ones with cartridges from there and just buying replacement pads off them. They usually send a discount code with an order.
As for compatability with pre 2000 9sp and 11sp - well good luck.;)

I mistakenly picked up some Kool stop campy brakes for my bike with older 9 speed xenon group set, and the shoes don't fit the xenon brakes. The newer campy breaks have a wider bolt, see pics on another thread I started here. The rim contact area is 8mm, you're welcome to them if you want them, as I doubt I'll ever use them.

FWIW, the xenon brakes work fine with a set of ultegra shoes I picked up. Their pads also have an 8mm contact area, but are wider where they enter the shoe (10mm vs 8m on the cool stop). As such I wouldn't say the cartridges are compatible.

Thanks a lot smacl. I'd certainly be interested in those KoolStops. They probably won't fit my 9sp (Chorus) calipers, though I'm curious to try, but should fit my 11sp (Record) ones. I'll send you a PM.

I had a similar problem recently with brake reach where the brake pad was overlapping the point where the tyre meets the rim.

The campy koolstop pads I had were roughly 3 mm too wide (haven't measured) but the problem was solved by using the stock campy pads which are narrower.
