Pasting to system32 not working

I'm trying to install the command line program wget, which must be installed to the system32 folder.

Seems simple enough. Open explorer.exe with admin, navigate to there, paste, done. At least it should work that way...

What happens is this: wget.exe IS copied to the folder, but does not visibly show up in the folder (through explorer or search) and is not found when using cmd.

Attempting to paste it to the folder again throws up an 'overwrite old file?' prompt.

There is no reason I can think of why this is happening.

    Help?

    Are you running 64-bit windows?

The only other thing I can think is that the file has the "hidden" or "system" flags set, so doesn't show up in a normal search or the normal explorer window.

Check your explorer settings to ensure that it displays hidden and system files.

I've just figured it out, actually. Seems Teracopy doesn't like system folders. Back to windows copy handler, worked.

Thats likely due to UAC, Terracopy should be designed to detect when to require permissions elevation though!

Yeah, it's strange to overlook such a feature when the most likely people to go looking for an improved copy handler are the people who will on occasion meddle with system folders :pac:

Be very careful with deleting files in Vista / 7 system folders

winsxs will be half the size of the windows folder after you remove patch installer and some other files

it contains NO real files. it's just links to other windows system files , a fake directory with short file paths for the OS to use

you can use disk cleanup build into windows to tidy down the windows folder instead. (clean up system files option)
