    hi there,
im having trouble balancing the radiators in my apartment
i have turned all them off using the lockshield (anti clockwise) and then turn them on, doing the coldest ones first and 1/2 a turn at a time they still dont get as hot as the rest of the rads.

The hot water has not been as hot as previously... would turning on/off the return balance valve for the cylinder rectify this. Also the bypass valve in the hot press is off - should this be on or off (red twist knob has been closed clockwise.

any help or advice would be much appreciated.

It sounds like your not 100 % sure what you are doing here.

What has probably happened is when you rebalenced the system there is slightly less water going to the coil to heat the hot water, this may be necessary in order to heat all the rads properly , is there a balancing valve located near one of the coil connections on the cylinder?

If yes you could open this slightly more but be careful as it could upset the balence again.

If you defo have a manual bypass in the hotpress then yes it should be partly open anyway.

As i said it sounds like your not sure if you could post pics of the hotpress it would prob help .

ya bypass should be open a turn or two , and balancing valve just open it slightly more but keep a close eye on the rads as it could upset the balance again

    Anti clockwise opens the valves.

thanks for the info... just need some further advise please

when i tried balancing them i did get close to optimal heat on all rads but but i went back to the return balance valve to the cylinder and closed it slightly more
    - the return balance valve is open by approx 1+1/2 turns
    - the bypass valve by just under 1 turn
    - the rads nearest seem to still take all the heat even when almost closed
    - the rads furthest will heat up but not as much as the nearest ones
    - the pump on the boiler doesnt seem to have a speed option that i can increase and i have bled all the rads
