Are there changes proposed to Motor Tax coming? I've been searching and can't find anything relevant but I seem to remember talk about Tax rates being hit this year. My MT is up for renewal so I'm trying to decide on 6 months or 12.

    Many thanks

There have been rumours of reversing the Co2 based system. There was a link a while ago to a report. But that's a good bit away

Rates went up in the budget, they won't be changing in 2012 again.

If you plan on keeping it for the year, tax it for the year. Only way buying less saves money is if you are planning to get rid of it. Can't see tax rates going down in any category.

    New rates here:

Particularly if you're driving a car taxed based on emissions, it may be worth taxing for 6 months now, then a further 3 months, and then 12 months. That way you're taxed until October 2013 and you won't be pay full whack when the rates go up again in 2013.

The most it usually goes up by is less than 8%, however if you now pay it over 6 months it's 9% more expensive than paying annually, over 3 monts it's 12% more expensive. It will be cheaper to pay annually even if it goes up next year.

...they could if there was an emergency budget this year, which could happen as things are so bad.
