What alternatives are there to RTE.ie?
Instead of taking to the streets on this - maybe a boycott on the RTE.ie website might be in order...
If Pat Rabbitte believes that we are evaders then maybe we should act like evaders and evade RTE.ie.

Why would anyone use rte.ie? What purpose does it serve? IIRC half the links on it don't work and the mobile version is appaling.

Something around 4 million page impressions per month. I think its the most popular Irish website.

    No way!

I need RTE.ie to post slanderous allegations against Ryan Tubridy in the comments section of the 'entertainment' pages...

I can't understand how- it's a terrible website. It's visitors mustn't be clued in to its many alternatives.

Well there's the rest of the 900+ plus channels on sky, the other 50 or so radio stations and then there's the whole internet!

We should be given an option on whether or not we want to view or listen to RTE. The technology is now in place. Seems only fair, given the state of the country.

I get all my news from boards or the bbc site

I said on another forum to boycott products that advertise on RTE. Eventually this will get back to RTE. All you have to do is start listing them. Maybe even email them.

I use RTE player to watch MNS (so I can skip the pundits) and will watch a LOI game on RTE itself the rare occasions I'm not at one myself at the same time. That's about my only use for it.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

rte.ie is actually a really popular site. It gets more traffic than boards does.

when rte is fully digital, will that mean it could be available as a subscription service? surely this is fair, if you want if pay for it...
of course this won't happen as its a tax and when do you ever get to decide about paying a tax...

just to say i've a 42inch lcd tv and have never had a tv licence, i've also never watched or listened to rte ever, as when young my dad bought a tv in scotland and it could not get the irish channels uhf only so had the four english channels.

RTE has been on UHF since the 80's

of course making it a subscription service and abolishing the licence is fair, but they're too scared most people would show common sense and not subscribe. and sure why do that when you can force them to pay it whether they can recieve it or not, or if this new bill passes whether they have a tv or not?

I don't really use the RTÉ site much other than for RTÉPlayer, though at the moment they've no programs on it want to see again anyway!

As for news, most of mine is gleaned from hourly updates on a local radio station (Beat102103 to be specific), the Eircom homepage, or here.

Not that I'm particularly anti-RTÉ, TV3 is a good example of why state funded television isn't always a bad thing!

Make it Pay Per View with advertising. No more TV licence. Let's see how long they would keep up present staffing levels.
