    Hi,

I have a 2 door Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec 16v, just passed NCT today and has 3 months tax.

Its Black with Black and silver alloys, tyres in great condition, car is also in great condition except for a some marks on the rear drivers side corner, no paint missing, just marked.

The inside is spotless. In great condition. About 98k miles on it.
How much should I expect to sell it for?

Iv been looking on donedeal but the prices are ranging so broadly that I haven't a clue.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Very good question!

It's so hard to know any more, as car values are all over the place. Ultimately, if you get the right buyer at the right time, you might be lucky, but 90% of sellers (myself included) are finding that what you would LIKE to get for your car, and what you will ACTUALLY get, are worlds apart!

Going on what you are saying and assuming it's a nice looking car and fairly straight, I would imagine anywhere around €1600 - €1800 is realistic and will probably get you enquiries. Over €2k and you probably wont get a single call..... Under €1,500 and you should shift it very quick

3dr models are worth a little more than 5 or 4 door ones as they are rarer and the Focus looks best as a 3dr. With 12 months test, a bit of tax, in good condition as described by the OP and low mileage for it's age, I start off by asking for around €1995 and see how it goes.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

That's a bit optimistic. The Irish herd only wants diesels these days so petrols are worth very little. But price it high as bazz suggested and then take it from there.

    Thanks,

So if I put it up for just under 2k and expect about 1700-1800?

That seems reasonable to me but dont want to over estimate the value while budgeting for a new car.

There is still a market for sub 1.8 litre petrol cars in this price bracket for people who do not do alot of driving.

You will know if it is overpriced by the level of interest you get. If you have time on your side then drop the price gradually. Cars can sometimes take a while to sell irrespective of how well they are priced so don't be too fast to drop the price significantly if there are no calls after 2 weeks.

While I am tempted to agree with pricing it high starting out, I have found that you might as well not have the car for sale as you practically get no interest

It isn't until it's priced at a realistic price that the calls will slowly come in, and yes, as bazz26 says, if you have time on your side, take your time and sooner or later the right guy should come along

Ultimately, if you are changing car, and relying on the sale of this one to finance the new one, I'm afraid the only way to get a quick sale is price it at the bottom end of the market. I really don't go along with this idea at all, unless you are TOTALLY stuck for cash and just HAVE to get rid of it right away.

By the way, as a matter of interest, would you mind just keeping us up to date with what happens by popping back in here from time to time?
It will be interesting to see how the pricing affects the sale

If the car is as clean as described then it is worth €2k or very close to it.

FWIW, my sister sold her Focus last week. It was on Donedeal for 3 days!

'01 Focus, 4 Door, 125k miles, brand new test, no tax, very straight and clean car. she was the 2nd owner.

She advertised it for €1750, let it go for €1450.

I decided to wait for a week or two, but one I put it up for sale I'll let you know what's happening.

I had a base model 5dr 1.4, with over 110k miles on it, but a clean car with long NCT. I advertised it at 1995, sold within a day for 1850, and got tons of calls for it ... could have sold it fives times over ! This was four weeks ago.

It would appear you have an answer OP...small engined cars well kept are always popular...I personally would think this a little on the high side but if someone's in a hurry to buy, they may happily give away a few hundred extra for the convenience of getting the car right away..
