The prices of Hard Disks did increase, any sign of them returning to normal prices anytime soon ?

I saw an article about two weeks ago saying that WD has already re-opened one of their factories and that prices are set to drop in the first quarter of 2012.
I just bought one of Adverts.ie though, I couldn't wait until they dropped.

    i will wait too.

any ideas if SSDs would drop a wee bit too? or totally different song with those things?

i am still between: 120gb ssd for steam VS 1-2tb hdd for crap.

Looking at a possible build and it's a killer to see what HDDs were going for this time last year compared to what they are going for now. If I held fire 'til, say, March, what's the chances the pricing of those would be back to something like they were?

You mean like uk.camelcamelcamel.com does for amazon. Here's an example: WD 2TB Caviar Green. Maybe you'll get a rough idea of what prices were like last year.

That's crazy. It's like a 110 percent jump in the price! It's a drag but in context it's not worthwhile when you think about the reason, in the main, for the increase. The floods in Thailand, where WD produces it's HDDs, were horrendous and hopefully as the place gets back to normal, we'll see the prices come back down as well (hoping Intel's prices come down too...) .
