Just back from specsavers ( limerick city) after having an eye-test...my prescription is quite high, -10.25 and -10.75.....so will definately have to thin down my lenses .....I was told 130 euros to thin down to 1.6 something index and 90 to thin down to 1.7 something index...plus the cost of frames of 89 euros+++. (am thinking of getting second pair( sunglasses..frames free, 130 for thinning down + 19 euro tint).....is this the cheapest around or should I resign myself to the fact that Im practically legally blind and its going to cost an arm and a leg to become a fully fuctioning member of society.......

An extra 90 to get to 1.74 I would say ie 220 euro - generally the thinner the lenses the more expensive they are speaking from personal experience.

Ring a few independent opticians tell them what your prescription is. Better still go in with a copy of your prescription and ask for a price. We had a guy in a few weeks ago and he asked for a quality varifocal with antiglare our shop was €70 cheaper than specsavers.

I might have gotten them the wrong way round, but she definately said 130 and 90..but then again she seemed a bit distracted........you'd think they didn't want me to spend the 400 euro that the whole lot is going to cost me.....

Specsavers are very expensive for folks with high prescription lenses.

For those with computer skills, ordering online from ZENNI OPTICAL in USA seems to get excellent reviews on this forum. (www.zenioptical.com)

Not bad prices but you only go up to minus 6.0
I'm minus 6.75 in one eye.

Lensway.co.uk for contact lenses. My husband bought splash lenses which are way cheaper than the acuvue dailies he previously used. He loves them. He said they are really comfortable, he reordered them straight away he liked them so much.

Zenni optical for glasses. Again he ordered a rimless pair from zenni for a fifth of the price of the specsavers frames he replaced.
These are the best value we've found, only negative would be they take around two-three weeks.

Yeah I have to set a limit on the prescription because of the lower index lenses. But the 1.67 index and 1.74 go up to about -10 at no extra charge. If you do decide to use my site just select the highest prescription available and send me a note with your order explaining your exact prescription. You can even email me a photo of your prescription for clarity. A few customers have done that already without any problems. Oh I have also sourced a supplier that supplies a high quality antiglare coating for the 1.67 and 1.74 lenses recently here in Ireland. Don't forget to mention boards.ie in the voucher box and you will get a further 10% off your order. My site is easily as good on value as zenni optical is and you don't pay a delivery charge and you don't have to wait as long for your glasses. Plus we irish supporting Irish jobs.

Hi investment, yeah the sunoptic 92 is a good imitation of the raybay wayfarer. I don't do rayban as the supplier is difficult to deal with. Plus any issues are a nightmare. If you want I can email you a non photoshopped photo of the frame. Pm your email address to me with the colour you like and I'll send you a photo or 2

Purchasing glasses online is much cheaper. Zenni Optical and Coastal are pretty good. I almost got all my glasses from these two sites. Comparatively speaking, Zenni’s high index lenses are much cheaper than Coastal’s. You can google the reviews about them.

So why are all the prices on your website in GBP then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 991 ✭✭✭endplate

You must have clicked on the GBP icon on the top right side of the site. The site is defaulted to display in euro and the customer has the option to view the prices in GBP or USD. The about us page clearly states we are Irish and are irish based.

Fair enough. The site is defaulting to Euro today anyway. Best of luck with the business
