Most reliable 06-08 Diesel?

    Hi All

    Reading through sites like Honest John newer diesels seem to be plagued with problems.

    Could anyone advise a reliable diesel car of the above vintage?

    Would most of then have a DPF in these years or would it be the newer models again ?

    There will be a lot of city driving. Even thinking of an auto but most seem to be really hard on the juice.

    Unless your a taxi driver and do mega miles then if most of your driving is city use then a modern diesel doesn't suit your needs.

    Diesels come into their own economy wise in high mileage motorway use. The reliability issues that most people will report with modern diesels will be turbo, injector, EGR valve, DMP or DPF failure.

    The vast majority of turbo failures are down to poor servicing/poor quality oil. This is equally as much the case with petrol or diesel engines.

    The majority of EGR failures are due to deposit build up from city/traffic driving. As with turbo's though, can be as much a problem on petrol or diesel.

    The majority of injector failures(or common rail issues in general) are down to poor quality diesel.

    The vast majority of DMF failures are due to city or stop/start driving.

    The vast majority of DPF failures are due to lack of regular regeneration, i.e lack of regular motorway/higher rev driving.

    i had a tiida diesel for 3 years they are cheap and never had a prob

    Is there any particular obvious symptom of egr issues ND?

    The engine warning light is the first thing that most people notice although, depending on how it has failed, it can cause poor running/idling on some cars.

    Sounds like i can't miss it so if it does go so. :pac:

    I was wondering because the last few days the car(06 sonata crdi) has started having no power at low revs, foot to the floor after putting it into 2nd & nothing. When i eventually do get it up to about 1800/2000 rpm it takes off. If i get it to the lower end of 3rd its the same. I think its worse when cold. I feel an impending turbo bill coming on.....which going by what you said earlier would annoy me purely from the perspective that i have had the car serviced properly since i've had it the last 2 & half years. :mad:

    Edit: From googling its seems it could be MAF issue, blocked intake manifold or any other number of things.

    Sounds like a MAF or boost sensor to me but I'm no expert.


    Think if your turbo was failing you'd be seeing a lot of smoke but I stand to be corrected.
