    Just been made captain by my golf society and I was doing some research for a suitable course. I got a good deal on the Mount Woolsely Golf Club in Carlow. I know the hotel as I have been there for a weeding but I dont really have any feedback on the course.

    Does anyone here have any honest feedback on the course and how it plays? All opinions welcome. Nothing booked yet,

    Thanks in advance guys,

    Brian.:confused::confused:

    I haven't played it in a while but I reckon it would be perfect for a society outing. It's a lovely course but not too intimidating for high handicappers and suitable for all levels.

    The society I'm in played it a couple of years back and decided not to go back... not because it's not a fine track, but because the majority of golfers agreed it was too long. Plenty of the golfers are 20+ handicappers and couldn't cope with the length/difficulty - so, depending on the quality of your golfers, I suggest you contact them and confirm you'll be playing from the Society tees. We played off the whites which measured 6,763 yards, but the Society tees are 6,389.

    If photos are of any help, there are 36 here

    Played it 3 times. Can be long, but if the ground is dry, there's usually great run on the ball.

    I really like the course. 3rd hole is fantastic. 9th hole par 3 is by far the poorest hole on the front nine. I would certainly recommend playing it and whenever I'm up that area I try to get out for a game in Mount Wolseley.

    When I was captain of a society a number of years back, I had my weekend there.
    I recommend it highly both from a course and hotel point of view.
    Staff of both were very helpful and made it very enjoyable.

    I played it a few times last year and agree that it is a long course. As with all courses designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr, it has a few water features and position is everything. Greens are good and it is a good course for good golfers .... the problem is if you are not playing well, it can drain you and you will lose interest.

    The hotel and set up is very good and staff are excellent, everything is in good condition and to be fair ..... they take pride in their work.

    7.5/10 for me (I dont do 10/10)..... nothing really wrong, just its long.

    Having been captain of a few societies myself, I would suggest that a course that has one or two short par three's is ideal as you can throw in nearest the hole and play off forward tees so everyone has a chance ..... the big hitters may moan about a hen run but they always end up in the prizes ;)
