I'm planning a road trip to the south of France following the west coastline.
I plan on camping out too.

I'm curious whether or not i will have trouble finding campsites to stay in without first booking in advance or will they be so busy that they will be full? Ill be doing this around the middle to end of July.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Id like to be able to travel for as far as i feel like and then find a place to stay.

Edit: I should also say i would just be looking for a basic place to camp and shower. Nothing fancy.

Used to do that sort of camping before children - at which time you need more facilities!

The majority of basic one and two star sites don't do booking, so it's just first come first served. There's generally a rule about leaving by 11.00 or 12.00 in the morning. So we used to pack up very early in the morning (tents get hot once the sun is up), drive for four or five hours, aiming to arrive somewhere about 2.00 or 3.00 in the afternoon, so that everyone leaving has gone and before too many other people have arrived. It was very rare that we got turned away.
