I placed a €500 hold on a car. We had to arrange finance whiich we have.

I have now spotted another car same type but a trim level up for the same price. I am now having second thoughts on the first car.

When we put the hold on it we didn't sign anything as it was over the phone and there was no mention of not getting a refund if we pulled out. And we have received a receipt.

I'd rather get more bang for my buck. I'm thinking of telling the first place that I've found a better deal (or that I could get finance).

I'm probably being a total pr1ck. Will I get my deposit back? Opinions?

You could haggle with the first place if they would price-match. If they want to be difficult, they could try and hold you to your word, and your 500 yoyos too. But, as you have signed nothing, the will probably play ball. Can they source a car with the same specs as the 2nd one you spotted?

I doubt the first dealer would be able to get another one in as they got a job lot on liquidated stock

You are not being fair IMO. You should have looked for value before deciding to place deposit. Whats the point of a deposit if people think they can get it back in all circumstances.

    Your probably right.

Only since we placed the deposit have we seen new cars on the market

Do a history check, it may throw something up that you can use as an excuse, number of owners etc

We are getting a cr check with the deal so I doubt there is anything there.

We were told there was a 3 year warranty but that wasn't true. Could be an option there.

Maybe, tell them no deal unless 3 year warranty as you were told.
