As stated above. What do ye do when ye shoot ye're foxes? Like do ye cut the tail off and throw them in the ditch or bring them home and dispose of them in a different manner or get there pelt etc? Just out of curiosity i'd like to know what others do with them :) Also what do ye do with the tails?

I take a pic, and then throw them in a ditch or cover.
sometimes leave out for the farmer to show my night's work.

That's about the height of it....

I take a picture if i have my phone but im almost after losing it too many times so i leave it in the jeep. Throw them in the ditch then. This year we started to cut the tails off and keep them in a bag.

Farmers wouldnt be happy if they were left thrown in the field. They dont last too long in the ditch with the birds and maggots etc.

just be sure you dont throw them in near a stream.

Shoot them, maybe take a pic.throw them over a tree for farmer to see or I try my best to put them on briars. Try not to throw them into a ditch with water as cattle some drink from it,last thing u want is sick farm animals

Im blue in the face trying to tell a chap that same exact thing but for the love of god I can't get him to believe me. He keeps banging on saying that the "few little germs" a dead fox would pollute into the water wouldnt be nearly enough to sicken a cow.

All goin to plan there should be a nice 308 size hole in a fox in kildare sunday mornin from tommyboy ;)

I take a pic and depending where i am i leave them or throw them in a bush

As spunk84 rightly pointed out, don't throw them into a drain that is part of, or even near a stream, river or watercourse of any type. The last thing you want to be called is the Hunter who poisoned Joe bloggs cattle. Rotten carcasses of ANY animal can turn a water supply bad very quickly. For the sake of five minutes,I throw a shovel in the boot and bury them. Out of sight, out of(livestock and antis) mind......

A fox is a small carcass in the scheme of things and natures scavangers quickly deal with it.

After 3 or 4 days there not much of a fox left. Between crows and maggots

    Before
    Castlewarren23-07-2010.jpg

    And after

Now would foxes and badgers eat the carcass, as well? Or is it just birds and little critters?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭clivej

I would think that any animal or bird that eats meat will eat a fox. I've seen Magpies and Gray back crows strip a rabbit in half an hour.

Can I ask why the tail is kept? There have been several posts on that
Is it to show the landowner what you've managed to get done?
