my oil level warning light came on the other day, so i topped it up as required. however the light remains on. (constantly on, not flashing). Does anyone know what this may be or can it be reset?

The sensors can go faulty, leading to the light staying on the whole time.

Is it a VAG car and what colour is the light?

VAG = Volkswagen Audi Group = VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda.

If its yellow but the level is full on the dipstick then its a faulty sensor as yellow means low level. If the light was red that could mean worse issues.

yes its an Audi A3 2.0 Tdi, does this change the problem? if its the sensor, then i got a quote for €175 today. Sounds expensive.

Faulty oil level sensor. The price is about right. The sensor is around €75 plus VAT. The sensor is in the bottom of the sump so it makes sense to change oil and filter at the same time. Allow another €75 for oil, oil filter and labour and add the VAT and it comes to €170.

    Similar issue actually...

My 06 Passat needed a new battery recently and since then when I fire her up, all the dash lights come on as normal - including the yellow oil light which flashes a few times, then goes out with the rest of them.

    Faulty sensor as well?
