PH -2 after 7 swing looks nice so far
    DC +1 after 6
Colsaerts -9 leads by 4 (64 on par 73 new course record)
    Tom Lewis -5
    Tasty looking track

I don't have Sky (have Sky Sports through UPC) but that is a fantastic addition to the service offered. Was there any additional charge once it was launched?

    nope, all free.

I think we put the "moan" on poor PH!!!

Typical Harringtion with a double bogey at the last. Was it water trouble again by any chance?

    Deja vu.

Ah well 3 days to go and at least he can't miss the cut.

No. Big push (or slice) off the tee into impossibly thick bushes. Penalty drop out combined with a three putt. Not pretty. Good round otherwise in fairness, but he does seem (or is it just me?) to have an inordinate amount of bad last holes!

I've kept a close eye on his scorecards over past year and it seems to be an inordinate amount of shots dropped on par 5s! A real weak spot.

Saying that, he did play them very well today until the last one.

I see there are 5 par 5s on this course, which is a lot.

    +1

Absolutely, par 5's seem to be his nemesis. And he's no short hitter. Strange.

I remember in the 2007 Masters when Zach Johnson won, if Harrington had settled for a par each day on the 15th by laying up, he would have won the tournament by a shot. Instead bogey, double, birdie and triple bogey, 5 over on that hole for the week and finished 4 behind Zach. Still, hindsight and all that.

Hope the 18th today was just a blip and that he continues to play like his first 17 holes!

Watched him play today and thought he played a majestic 17 holes. Up till the 18th he hit almost every fairway and green, it was actually his putter that probably let him down a small bit.
Unfortunately then for Harrington the fairway he decides to miss he hits it into a bush and has to take a penalty stroke.
Still though, pretty promising signs for his year ahead if he can keep his long game up to that standard.

Don't forget what happened Harrington after his first round of 2011.

Hope he keep's it up. Would really boost his confidence ( when he should have tons of it).

Anybody see the drop Byrne got for Lewis, to a tee box today, class from Byrne.

Point of entry as far back, onto a tee box, good thinking.

You think Lewis didn't know that rule himself? If he didn't there'd be something badly wrong

No , he would not know the course as well as byrne. That is byrne's job.

It was byrne who told him, Lewis knows the rule.

Also , Byrne has far more experience of golf as in 3 times more than Tom. He has seen every rule and has been at every odd ruling. The lad is a kid. He knows the rules but you can't beat experience when it comes to that stuff.

Some finish, must be getting to him big time. As good as he has played in a long time for 32 holes then those finishes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭murphdogg11

Despite all the positive talk from PH this finish today won't do anything for his already fragile confidence.

Despite all the positive talk from PH this finish today won't do anything for his already fragile confidence.

In fairness, his positive talk is only an indication that he is happy with the fundamental state of his game. The way he played for most of these 36 holes would seem to back up his words.

Even last year, his worst year a pro, his game wasn't all that bad. There were stats in yesterday's paper showing that in GIR, fairways hits & stroke average he was better in 2011 than in 2008 when he won two Majors. The single biggest thing missing the last couple of years has been confidence. He really needs a confidence boost but unfortunately the finish to these two rounds has been a hammer blow in the other direction.

Someone else mentioned his poor play on Par 5s which I think is a bigger issue than the closing holes of rounds. He is +1 for the 10 Par 5s so far this week which is probably giving about 7 shots to the leaders over 36 holes. It's very hard to compete like that. I don't know why it is but he seems far more likely to hit a wild tee shot on a Par 5 than on a Par 4.

To double bogey the closing hole two days on a row is a bit shambolic. If he parred the 18th both days he'd be in a tie for second now. That's not to say it's an easy hole, it's playing index 5 and par average.

Is he trying to go all out on these par 5's or what? Why doesn't he just play the percentages and give himself a good birdie chance.

Cant wait to see how he plays the 18th in a while. Course playing tougher today, Pablo Martin shot a 90

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Just bogeyed the par 5 13th, level par for his round. If he could pick up a couple of shots over the closing holes he might still have a squeak.

Its high time he got some of that mental confidence he talks so much about.

Great to see Padraig doing well but Tony Johnson doesnt half talk sh1te.
Every shot by a south african is the hardest shot ever and only they can manage great shots...makes me both cringe and angry at the same time

Hallelujah!! Harro birdies 18 after running the eagle putt close. -7 for the tournament now and only 2 off the lead currently.

Harrington will be out in the 3rd last group tomorrow, playing with Olazabal. He is 3 shots off the joint lead of Colsaerts & Grace.

A top 5 finish should be achievable at least.
