Sorry if this is in the wrong forum..

Is anyone here fairly familiar with any of these courses?

I was considering doing the 'start line course' but after reading up a bit I found out the following:

The first car is a Mazda 3..I just assumed it would me an MPS..it's not, so it's a slow car.

The 2nd car you get is a formula sheane which is a single seater 150bhp racing car. I have read that their is a rev limiter fitted to these cars(about 4000 rpm).

From the info above, I got me thinking that the 'supercar experience' might be more fun? Or does anyone know if there is a rev limiter fitted on these as well?

    Any info appreciated.

Me and a friend done the start line course last year.

It was a brilliant day out and it was very well organised

the mazda's were actually good fun.

The formula Sheane cars were quite quick and a good few people ended up in the gravel!

We brought 2 vouchers from donedeal and paid 140e each for the vouchers

    i would recommend it.

I have done the start line course. It is class.
I think it would be better than the supercar experience. The reason for the mazda3 is to learn how to drive on the track. The Formula Sheane is pretty quick, and will probably feel a lot faster than the supercars from the acceleration and being so low to the ground. There might be a rev limiter but on the track you'l be on you couldn't get much more speed out of it, I got up to 100MPH in the formula Sheane.

    Definatly worth a go.

the one with the mazda 3 and then the formula sheane is 225 squid. There is a cheaper one with just the mazda 3 and the supercar ones start around the 100 mark.

A bit pricey but definatly a once in a life time experience, unless you are a raceing driver that is.

It's very pricey, but it's great fun. It teaches you a lot about driving. Usually the supercar experiences aren't as good as you might imagine, you won't be allowed to give them full beans, but in the formula Shane cars you drive them as hard as your ability allows. The Mazda's have racing slick tyres on too, so you'll be amazed at how quickly a FWD hatch can corner!
I'd advise not going on a wet day though. I had the home straight course voucher and went on a wet day. It was great craic from the point of view that the Shanes were more fun and you could learn how much of a little slide you could get from the rear at each corner, but the big problem was other people on the track. I was supposed to get 15 laps but only got 14, and not even 1 lap did I get a clear run. Always behind someone. Wait for them to get the flag, overtake, half a lap later behind someone else. At the end one girl had spun so many times she slowed down to probably around 20mph. I stupidly waited until the blue flag to pass her, but another numpty passed us both going into the corner. He wouldn't pull over for me for any blue flag after that.
To be fair, the organisers did pull us all over to give an extra pep-talk to the people really struggling, but I felt given how much hard earned we spent that they could have let the struggling half finish their remaining 5 laps while keeping the quicker half aside, then let us out when they finished. That would have been better for everyone, but alas... they seemed to just want to get us all to finish our time slot and be happy.
The first time I went was in the dry, and although not quite as challenging, you get plenty of laps in while closing in on the guy in front!

The Mazda`s 3 dont have slicks they have high performance road tyres from Dunlop that anybody can buy.
My bad, the Rover GTI's had slicks on them, I was in those in the dry about 10 years ago!

Yeah we used to run them on slicks but we had to stop due to complaints about noise from somebody living nearby.
    Feckin locals... they're no addition!

the mazda's were actually good fun.

I was actually more impressed with the Mazdas than the Formula Sheane (did the Start Line course too, would recommended it). You expect a single-seater to have some poke and corner on rails, but I didn't think a bog-standard(ish) family car would be as enjoyable on the track.

Thats one of the most comment pieces of feedback we get from the course (apart from how good looking and brilliant the instructors were).

I remember the instructors being very good, but good looking?! They should've gone to Specsavers :).

Is there much of a waiting list for this does anyone know?

    Thanks for the info Lightning.

So which would you recommend, the mazda 3/ formula sheane or the Porsche 911?

Did the start line course a while back, yes the instructers were great but all suffered from BO ;)

Great fun. The single seater's were a hoot. Great to be out on your own. I did the rally school Ireland course a while back also. I found the racing line stuff much more interesting than the handbrake turns TBH.

Recommend to anyone, and really not that expensive for what you get. Lunch was included.

Ive heard nothing but good about the course, i would definitely do that over a supercar day, the old saying is true its more to drive a slow car fast than drive a fast car slow, you will learn so much. Mondello also do a beginners track day training course, that you do in your own car , that might interest some people and its crazy cheap too. Oh i cant wait for my next track day roll on Feb 28th :D

Did the Start line course a few years ago. Was great fun, especially as the part of the track was barely thawed out from a hard frost. But I'd already been cancelled due to rain so went with the cold. Try and book in the summer so you can push harder.

The single seat was great fun and the laps in the car with the instructor really show you how to push a family car.
