Car wont stay running

Hi all. I'm back with more questions about a corsa c / agila.
I have a 2002 opel agila which has the corsa c engine (or so Im told).
I took the EGR valve out of it last night to clean it with carb cleaner.
I couldnt see any moving parts in the valve but it looked to clean up well.

When I refitted it and went to start the car it started, shuddered and died all in about 10 seconds. I can get it to start but I have to start it with the throtle down and as soon as I let the revs off it dies again. I've tried keeping the revs on for a bit to heat the engine up but it made no difference.

I've checked and there are no stored error codes.
    No warning lights on.

Is this the egr valve failed?
Did I miss something cleaning it or should I just fork out for a new one?

I'm looking to get this resolved soon as its due for the test on Sat and is going up for sale as soon as its tested.

Are u sure u have everything connected properly or that u didn't damage a sensor or the likes seriously there's no reason for it not to start with what u have just done.was the car starting and running correctly before u removed the egr,who told u to remove the egr and why did u remove.also with regard to stored codes they don't always so up instantly it takes a set amount of starts or turns of the key for the fault to register.

Yes I am. I've checked everything twice, then double checked that, like I always do. I'm so afraid of forgetting something.
    Can't swear I didn't damage one but I don't think I did.
I was told to try cleaning it for the test, as it was blocked off and apparently they dont like that. A mechanic who works in my local motor factors recomended I do it. He even said carb cleaner would do it.
Look it up, apparently its normal enough to clean them with carb cleaner.

The car behaved like this when I had the battery disconnected for a few hours before, but it resolved itself after revving it up a few times. That didn't work this time.

A lot of people block off the egr on opels and it has no problem to the running of the engine.it wouldn't past a test tho.So are u putting on a new egr r one that was fitted and blocked off its hard to c what's wrong without pics or anything but the car souls still start.so it's starting and cutting out straight away or ??? Did u disconnect anything off the throttle body buy any chance.i guess from ur posts ur not a mechanic.oh and cleaning it with carb cleaner is correct yes.

I'm not a mechanic, but I'm willing to learn.
The one in the car was blocked off when I got it. I removed that one, took away the blocking plate, tried to clean it and refitted it.
    No new one yet.
It starts but dies out a few seconds later. quicker than if the immobilizer kicks in.

Speaking of immobiliser are u getting a flashing light on the dash wen it starts.so u removed the blanking plate that's blanking off the egr and tried to refit the blanking plate.or u removed the blanking plate and reconnected the egr.if its the later the egr is knackered and hence why it was blanked off.

No lights on the dash. If it's the immoblizer then why would it stay running when i have the throttle in?

I removed the EGR, took away the blanking plate, cleaned the EGR and reconnected it without the plate. I didnt have time to refit the plate and see if that helped, but I'm getting a second hand EGR tomorrow to try.
I know its knackered but theyre generally just stuck with soot, thats why carb cleaner usually works.
Is this normal behaviour for a failing EGR valve?
    Or is this something else?

Some people just blank them off cuz they know they give problems.
I'll see how the second hand one goes.

The fact that the car will cut out when the revs drop indicates the EGR valve. The car should run if the revs are kept over 2000 rpm. As said earlier the blanking plate was put in because the EGR was knackered. In a few cases the cleaning of the EGR will help but this one sounds like a lost cause, the solution is to replace the valve. I had the same problem a few years ago on an Astra 2.2 coupe. The valves new are not cheap

As I've said from the start the egr was blanked off for the reason it was knackerd but I guess when u get the information u require off us u won't come back and let us no how u get on will u.replace with a second hand egr and u will be fine

I hope you learned not to ever listen to what anyone in a motorfactors tells you.
