Has anybody here done this part time course held in GMIT for the past few years?.

I'm thinking of doing it primarily as an aid to studying, however it is a bit pricey at €125 considering a bestselling book on the subject could be purchased at a fraction of the cost.

Maybe the course tutor is very good?.
Has anyone attended it in the past?.

I did it a few years back and can give info but not much point in me typing it all if it's a different tutor

Does the tutor have a German name?

A mate did it, at least I think it was in GMIT.
He liked it but I've not sure how beneficial it was really...

Feck it, I'll type a bit, I'm bored

In GMIT there was a German man who did it. I don't think he works there but he might have some connection, not sure. So check if he's doing it. I think possibly his wife works in GMIT

He gave a free one hour session, room was jammed, easily a few hundred in there.
Picking random items like icecream cone -> wardrobe or kitten -> clothes hanger
And years and years later I think of one and I think of the other, it's about linking things

Now how you do it is you create a strong mental image. It's your own image, no point someone telling you what to do. Go with the flow and what's your first reaction. So maybe taking the clothes hanger and stabbing the cat

Ok, thats sound ridiculous but it works.
And it's not meant for that, it's meant for:
Car keys -> left on coffee table And come on, everyone has mislaid their keys some morning.

So you put your keys down and five minutes later, where are my keys???? Oh yes, the coffee table that I scratched to bits and scraped slogans on and the wife went mental. This is something you can see, feel, hear and even touch.

    Follow so far?

That's just one part of it

Was eight weeks I think and you'll cover far more

A lot is based on the book, the tutor will tell you to buy the book anyway but nothing like some practice in a group. A bit of Derren Brown too.
I'm trying to find the authors name, I believe it was McCarthy

Lastly, if it's the German guy he's no charlatan, he applies what he knows.
Fifteen in our class, we met him the first time and we all said our name within minutes of the first class.
Then we moved seats and he could list off everyones name instantly.

    All about practice realy.
If you're going to sit there and not stuck in it's a waste of time. But sure give it a lash, seems expensive but it'll keep you out of the pub :p

The tutors name is Joe Thornton, doesn't sound German, but..... a couple of years ago I attended a study skills seminar, a German sounding man did a bit of Mnemonics with us and as far as I can remember his name was the oddly Irish sounding Joe Thornton as well!.

Mikemac, did you apply what you learnt to academic study?.
