Hello, I am a male who is 25 and I don't know which career to take. I dropped out of school when I was 15 after getting bullied by a group of people.

In the intervening years, i've done some courses, I got some certs. My last course started in September 2009. I was doing very well, it was a course in IT and I am superb at computers. But my work experience went badly and it wasn't able to be finished. I was gonna breeze past the 1st year exams but the teacher told me I needed the work experience.

That was late April 2010. I then went into a bit of a shell and didn't leave my house very often, only a couple of times once every 2/3 months at night. Since November of 2011 I am getting out a lot more often though, like 5 times a week. I have started talking to my cousin since November 2011 and he helped motivate me to aim for a course in January for 10 weeks. I will be doing this.

Though I have my eyes ahead for the college year September 2012, college. But the CAO closing date is 1st Febuary 2012 so I have to decide before then what course to do. I'm talking a broad look at my life ATM, thinking how the i've been on the dole since I was 18 and it was easy money, i've been able to live comfortably as i'm with my Mom and I only give her a small bit each week. I'm living at life at a plateau that I suspect even many people in families aren't living ATM.

It's been too comfortable, but I want to get a career going. I have dreams of becoming a multi-millionaire, but no specific career path, that is my frame of mind ATM. I want a job that doesn't have limits, I want a job that has potentially big prospects. But I just want to get something, but i'm not sure what. Why do you guys think? In my head i've a vision if I take some job and i'm in my older years, me saying then I shouldn't have done that.

But i'm 25 now! But i'm finding it hard to go down a road, cos I fear I mightn't be able to come back the road and i'd be stuck and I would really hate what I did, but time is passing. What should I do? I feel like I am about to take a gigantic step across a pond, a step that is going only forewards, a step that will never be allowed to retreat, even in the face of fire.

OP, glad you are becoming more sociable, dont put too much stress on yourself regarding CAO, deadline is Feb 1st but you can change your mind in June so just send it off now with any options and then you can change it again when you have more time to review your options. Maybe you could ask about placements in It firms, IT is a strong industry in Ireland at the moment and you have the aptitude so with a bit of self belief you can be successful :)

The only thing I can say to you really is that jobs aren't for life anymore. 20/30/40 years ago you picked a career and you sticked with it until you retired. Nowadays it's estimated that most people will change careers on average of 3 times over a lifetime. So don't get too worried about getting trapped on one career path. There will always be a way out if you need it further down the line :)

My only advise would be to stick with IT. Try to get certified in VMware and\or cisco.......it will make your CV stand out from others. From experience there is a shortfall in IT staff.

Confidence is good. Ambition is good. Non-specific belief in your own awesomeness will not get you a good job, particularly when you're a 25 year old with no concrete qualifications or work experience (maybe I misread your post).

You need to be good at something quite specific, and then be able to communicate that specific thing to someone who needs it.
