New USI Constitution-"Special Congress"

It seems there has been little or no discussion of this that I can find anywhere.
Can anyone enlighten me to where I might find some information about it and how the NUIM delegation were mandated to vote?

My own personal favourite from the old (if it has been replaced) constitution was
If the President is elected to a second term in office, they will receive an
increase in wages, providing this is approved by the Finance Committee. The
level of the increase shall be determined by Finance Committee but shall not
    exceed €8,000.
    (Article 7.2a).

Can't find anything about it on the tellyourtd.com website or the usi.ie site, or the USI Facebook page, or Maynooth SU's Facebook page. I will admit as a postgrad student who doesn't have exams and a pile of assignments to work through I haven't been on campus proper in about a month so if the place is covered in lovely pamphlets about the plans to vote on a new constitution I will gladly blame myself for the lack of enlightenment.

    PS
In case anyone somehow figures out who I am. I did have another account which I have allowed to run dormant due to its horribly obvious username.

I believe there was to be an emergency Union Council to discuss and vote on the issue on Tuesday evening. No idea what happened though. And somehow, I imagine it didn't reach quorum. Would the SU have to abstain then when it came to voting?

Also, if you hadn't have put the bit at th end of your post, I wouldn't be wondering who you are :pac: I know you're not the poster most will assume you to be anyway.

I only mentioned that because I've seen people being called up in the past for posting with and using multiple profiles. I never really used boards though.

Oh right. Nah, they only care about that if someone re-regs with a new account after being banned.

Anyway, back on topic: It's a bit odd that this hasn't been mentioned really. Nothing on the Student Observer about it either.

Only two colleges didn't support the new constitution, IADT and NUIG, as far as I know. Also, the eight officers who aren't president will get the title "Vice President for X".

Yup IADT spoke & voted against it

The "up to €8,000 pay increase for re-election" is probably a good indication of what the USI is actually about...

"The people we represent are having their grants cut/eradicated, their fees increased and their sources of income taken, but we can afford to give ourselves a raise..."

I'd probably be angry if it wasn't so predictable xD

And the last thing we need now is a division between the students and the Union.

Banquo, can we get an explanation for the pay hike?

That's assuming that most students actually think that the USI is somewhat capable of being anything other than a stomping ground for careerist hacks and their drinking buddies.

    Students are the union?

well those in full time positions who are running the union aren't students. so the fear is that they wont understand the day to day problems of students (financial problems if their paid to much for example) particularly if they have been out of collage for so long (new constitution says 3 years for president)

Sorry Dr. Nguyen Van Falk I didn't mean to bog us down in a petty disagreement. My fault. It seems everyone that has commented so far is fairly critical of the workings of USI, as am I.

I was really hoping that a member of the exec would possibly comment on this and we could have some clarification as to the strain of democracy that is at work. Did boards ever become an official channel of communication as mooted a few years back?

Yeah, there's an official SU account, haven't noticed it being used in a while though.

If you want clarification from the exec, it might be best to email or go in to the office though?
