A Few Shower Questions if You Don't Mind

    Hey Folks,

The house we bought came with no shower so we've been thinking about getting one put in. The chap who serviced our boiler/turned our water on is also a plumber (I believe he's well known on Tradesman.ie) and he quoted us €600 to purchase and install an electric shower. Is it usual that the plumber would purchase the shower?
How much should we expect to pay for a shower including purchase and installation.

I believe there are 2 different types of shower you can buy depending on the water setup in your home. Is there anything I should consider?

    Many thanks.

I would imagine thats a shower over the bath at that sort of money ??

You get mains fed and tank fed, if you have poor mains presure then tank feds the way to go, electric or off your hot water storage tank ?? do you have plenty of hot water ?? do you have a good electrical supply ??

Quite a bit to way up and think about.

Mains Fed = Quieter but its all dependant on the water pressure in your mains, a plumber who has worked in your area would know off hand.

Tank Fed = Louder , but potentially more powerful shower no worries about pressure as long as you have a good size storrage tank in attic.

You can aso get powershowers fed from hot water cylinder as well but a lot of people dont like them as it means the cylinder in the hot press must be heated and the amount of hot water is limited by size of cylinder.

To be honest its hard to say if price is fair or not as it would all be dependant on how easy it is to get the pipework back to tank , and get it wired properly by a electrician.

If its fitted over the bath would you need to add on the price of a decent bath screen?

Thanks for the answers guys. Indeed it would be an over the bath affair. We have pretty good pressure- I think. I wouldn't want to get a shower that is dependent on the water being heated by the boiler. I'd like for the shower to heat the water so herself/myself can just hop in and out whenever we want.

I have attached a link for showers. Depending on your circumstances the shower is usually choosen. Although the nicest looking the triton t90/mira elite 2 is the most popular shower because its instantaneous and does not require a store of water or good pressure.

Thank you both for the links. I'm afraid I'm not a regular visitor to the forum nor am I in any way, shape or form a handyman, so my knowledge is non-existent on these things.
