Can I become a casual worker if I switch from full time work to part time work?

I am wondering if I can become a casual worker with the social welfare if I switch from full time work to part time work. I'm switching due to personal circumstances but might reconsider if I can't sign on as a casual worker. The part time work is 3 days a week. When I was previously a casual worker, you got paid if you did 3 days a week however I was unemployed before I became a casual worker on that occasion. I did an interview today for a part time job and it went well. The interviewer said she'll know by Monday who gets the job so I need to know by Monday, that's if I do get the job, if I can claim a casual worker's allowance switching from full time to part time. I'd be down a lot if I couldn't claim casual worker's allowance so I obviously wouldn't take the job.

To qualify for casual jsb or casual jsa your days need to be reduced by your employer. In you case it appears that it is a personal choice so therefore you would not be entitled to claim casual jsb or jsa as it was your choice to reduce your working week.

Thanks for the information. Pity s*it on the social:( My full time job is causing me mental stress and I want to get a part time job lined up for college pronto with the January 31st deadline for Mature Students coming up. I can't guarantee they'll take me on part time but I'll have to ask. If I do get the part time job I got interviewed for today, the wage would only be €100-€120. A casual allowance would bring it up to €250ish as my brother is receiving casual worker's allowance and gets €140 weekly. Of course I'd only claim the casual rate till September when college starts but I'm not even guaranteed a place as a Mature Student.

Any chance you have a link for this on their site?

It appears to me that you want to play the system so I can no longer offer you advice.

Playing the system?Well in 2009 I claimed dole from February 2009 to September 2009 even tho I made a CAO application in January 2009 with a return to college in mind. Call it what you want I'm a casual worker until I start college again.

I call it as I see it. You are lining up a part-time job for when you go to college in September even though you have a full time job now which you are giving up and expect to have a top up from social welfare in the mean time. Goodnight.

And have you got a link to back up your claim from your first post?

I dont need a link. I know and work the system. I come on here to help people who genuinely need help not to help people who want to play the system.

Would appreciate any advice as don't have much knowledge on the subject

Yes but anyone posting under a disguise on the internet could claim they are anything. So be a good chap and post a link or I won't take your word on it. I am visiting Citizens Information tomorrow on my break just up the road from me so I'm found out there either way.

It doesnt depend on hours it depends on number of days worked. Were you on jsb or jsa prior to taking up the Christmas contract. If you were on a sw prior to taking up this contract you should go to your sw office and fill out a form for a repeat claim... casual in your case. If your previous claim was jsb then if your work 3 days or less you will get payment for 3 days if one of the days is Sunday you will be paid for 4 days. If its jsa your means from earnings including Sunday will be assessed and I cannot say what you will get for the days you dont work in the jsa scenario as I do not know your circumstances nor would want you to post specific earnings on an internet site.

Do that and just for the record ask them if you can get bte again as you seemed to accept the answer your got from someone in disguise on the internet from a previous post by you.

Look up the section left work voluntarily which you will be doing.

Yes but I did ask for a link afterwards, why you won't provide me with one I don't know. We could do this all night but I got a job I hate doing to go to early in the morning.

Have they not stopped discounting Sunday as a working day? So if you are working Sunday its counted as a day? This came in at the last budget.
