    Hi Im gonna get work done soon and I would like to know what kind of price il be paying.

    First off I have 13x 6 panel doors+frame and architrave. Then skirting board in Sitting room, dinning room kitchen hall stairs and landing.

    All the doors were painted about 5 years ago and are in good condition.

    What kind of prices should I expect for the lot?

    Whats the going rate per door etc.

    Im going to be buying the materials I pressume all I will need to provide a painter is the paint. Is there anything else I could be overlooking?

    Why dont you do it yourself.

    Tin of McPhersons 5 litre Eggshell 35 euro,a 3 euro gloss/varnish small mini roller and tray ,2 inch fine tipped touch in brush and you will fly through it.:)

    I was debating it but I hate oil based gloss paints.

    Why eggshell, Whats the difference?

    Easier to apply (mini roller and a 2 inch feather/cut in brush)
    Not as shiney as gloss and lasts longer
    Doesnt go off and turn yellow

    got a price of 700euro from a reputable chap. He says hes gonna wash down, fill, lightly sand and caulk the lot. Then obviously paint the lot with a mild sheen.

    I went with it as the price seems about right for the work. I got a few mad high and mad low quotes but this chap came recommended to me so I shouldn't need a comeback if there were to be a problem.

    13 doors, 11 frames, all the architrave,skirting and window sills in the house.

    Price is for materials and labour. Also he is gonna re-oil the stairs and bannisters.

    He said 3 days at 175 a day
    tin of oil 45
    paint and other materials 130 float

    Total=700

    If he under spends on any material he will refund me.

    I explained that badly, Im paying him by time and the rest is materials.

    175 a day,,is his rate? (professional trades person/building site working day is an 8 hour day...8:30am till 5-5:50pm)

    Eh,this isnt the Celtic Tiger Era anymore.:rolleyes:

    130-140 a day would be the "maximum" in my opinion and experience.

    15-20 minutes for a morning/breakfast break and 40 minutes for a lunch break.

    Where is he going for the oil.....Iran???:

    Id wouldnt be happy with those prices.

    i would like to know what is paddy147 doing for living and how much is he earning, every single of paddys post is "do it ur self" and everything is too much for him.

    if ur painter came recommended and he will do good job in my opinion its worth to pay little bit more and get the job done right!!!! 13 doors and frames : prep work and couple of coats takes time!

    Eh I work in the construction based and multi-national company based IT/Telecomms sector,if you must know.

    Not that my career is any of you're business though

    You should actually read post number 9 again,before posting about it,as you are completely missing the point of post number 10,and dont seem to understand either.

    i do understand post 9, chap is goin to do even more work than original post mention, if u are saying that 120/140 a day is right price than take tax out of it and poor painter is earning 80 euro a day. Not everyone is doin cash jobs/nixers. register tradesman is paying taxes most of them are vat registered and insured you have to take all of it into calculation. i thing if chap is charging 170/day and is paying his taxes and insurance he is not doin anything wrong. STOP hiring people doin cash jobs and we will all benefit from it.

    Who said 120 euro??

    I didnt.

    Who said cash job or nixer??

    I didnt.

    So why bring that into it and try to use that tactic??You seem to like to jump to conclusions/presumptions alot (and also about me personally) with no basis for it.

    Quote what I said and posted or dont bother to quote me or talk to me on the matter.

    well my brother recommended him to me and my brother runs his own carpentry company. He uses him for all his work.

    I would not expect any trades person to work for 120-130 euro a day.

    You get what you pay for.

    175x5=875

    after tax is about 675

    120x5=600

    after tax is about 450

    Im not looking to defraud the revenue. I simply want the job done right at a fair price for both parties.

    Some people were offering 200 for the lot. I can only Imagine what the outcome of that would be:rolleyes:

    Paddy, can I ask you would the above work with a stained door? or would I need to sand them down/put on a primer or??? Does the Eggshell go directly on or do they need an undercoat? Thanks

    Sorry OP for hopping in on your thread.:o

    that is what i was trying to say!

    Sorry paddy i didnt want to upset you, i know that we are goin through difficult times but we cant expect people(tradesmen) to work for nothing,there is a lot of cost involved to run the business ( if painter charges 170 a day not all of it goes to his pocket!)

    Sorry OP will keep it on topic next time.
