Second Pair

I got my first pair of glasses last week from a local optician. I have notice a big difference for driving, I don't seem as tired after long journeys. I got the prescription and lenses using my medical card and paid €65 for the frames.

I'm looking for a second pair for watching TV. I want to be able to leave one pair in the car and one in the house. As these are the only two places I need them, it will save me carrying them around.

So I went back to my local optician and ask for a second pair and her quoted me €110 :( - €45 for lenses and €65 for frames. I'm thinking of looking online.

Does anybody know what kind of lenses I would have got on the medical card?
Would it have been the most basic (CR39???) or could it have included the likes of anti-glare?

The glasses you get free with the medical card are usually the thick very old fashioned plastic frames. But if you look around there are some retro styles coming out that are quite cool now.

CR39 is the material code for the basic uncoated lenses with a 1.5 index. The price quoted for the lenses would be normally for uncoated lenses.

You understand you can only use your medical card once a year. You can claim an eye test every 2 years but you can claim your allowance for new glasses every year as it's accepted that your glasses could break or get damaged beyond use.
