Sorry for the ignorance here but could somebody link me to when Irish boxers are in their qualifying tournaments for London. Who has qualified so far? Who stands the best chance of qualifying later? How many chances do they have? Thanks!

Must do the reserach, but I believe there is ONE chance, maybe two, to qualify. We have qualified three fighters I believe. John Joe Nevin at 56 kgs; Michael Conlon at 52 kgs and Darren O'Neill at 75 kgs. I could be wrong here, so anyone, feel free to correct.

Best chance to qualify is Joe Ward at 81 kgs if we go by AIBA world rankings, where he is ranked 3rd as of their Nov rankings. He is also a very good fighter, and that ranking is justified.

    from iaba.ie :

The north-eastern Turkish city of Trabzon has been confirmed as the host city for the final Olympic qualifier for European male boxers.

The 2012 AIBA qualifying event will take place at the Hayri Gur Sports Hall in the city between April 13 and 22.

Host nation Turkey has yet to qualify any boxers for the London Olympics, but with home advantage, Eyup Gözgeç, the President of the Turkish Boxing Federation, is confident

"Unfortunately, none of our boxers qualified for the Olympics following the AIBA World Boxing Championships held in Baku last year, but this qualifying event in Trabzon gives us a good opportunity to find our way back. Be ready to witness the best of our boxers", he said.

Ireland's Darren O'Neill, John Joe Nevin and Michael Conlan qualified for the London Olympics
    at the Baku World Championships.

Ireland will be aiming for seven Olympic berths in Trabzon, while Katie Taylor and the Irish women's team will be targeting three Olympic places at the AIBA Women's World Championships in China in May.
