I am looking for ideas for a cost effective (cheap ;)) way of framing large (4ft x 2ft or so) band/movie posters for our cinema and music rooms in the ouse, or a way of hanging/protecting them from damage..

Some are quiet rare so i don't want to just pin them to the wall..

    Any ideas gratefull recieved :D

Paste them to the wall like wallpaper, varnish over them and then frame' each one with some lengths of beading, v cheap.

Problem with that is.. that's a very permanent fixture.. :) Some of these posters would essentially be irreplacable so I dont want to damage/or stick them.

I was thinking along the lines of getting some clear perspex and building a frame for each.. The problem was the perspec at B&Q etc.. isnt really all that "clear" last time I looked.

Check out charity shops for old pictures?

Yeah I'll have a look around some shops etc.. I was also going to check out some commercial poster companies and see what they had.. although last time I checked that out in the UK we were talking 100's of pounds per frame..

    Thanks..

(Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing an obvious interior decorating trick that you folks could alert me to)..

Ikea in Ballymun or Homestore and More in Airside sell large 4 x 2 frames

Local framing companies can be surprisingly good value, and offer a choice of frame types.

    You could build your own?

Are those posters your normal sized large ones you get in the likes of HMV?
If so, HMV are selling poster frames for €22.99 at the moment.
I got one in Liffey Valley yesterday.

Thanks all.. Appreciate the ideas.. The Ikea ones will just about fit (6cm too small but I can fold the border).. We are going to get 3 this weekend to try..

Unfortunately the HMV ones were too small,as the primary picture I want to frame measures 100cm x 76..

Baruthiel.. you have spawned a monster... :D

The missus saw the thread, and started looking at the HMV site.. we are now going to purchase a bunch of classic album cover posters in addition to the Ikea frames.. I popped down to HMV in Liffey Valley today and picked up one Maxi frame and Beatles Abbey Road poster as a tester.. Unfortunately their selection was pretty poor (unless you like Beiber or One Direction).. But at least the poster sizes are a more standard size.. Have just a set from the UK.

(BTW HMV Maxi frames come with a free maxi poster in Liffey Valley.. so €22.99 for frame a poster was good value)..

    Thanks for the tip..

You could FrameMakers in Sandyford Industrial estate. I got stuff block mounted there, which I know the OP doesn't want, but I'd be surprised if they couldn't come up with some solution. I have no connections there, but got good service/price a few years back.
