    Hi lads,

Looking at changing to an accord i-dtec 2.2 exec , 2009. Local honda dealership can get me a very good deal on an 08 (although not in the colour I would like), is there any difference in the engines between 08-09?

I remember reading somewhere there were some not so small differences, but I can't find anything now.

Saving €2,000 between the 08-09 and am willing to forgo the savings if the engine is a bit better, and the 09 already has the colour I want.

    Many thanks

I have the CO2 emissions down as 150g on the MY09 Accords, which I think were the first of the new models. Probably some of them registered in 2008 even though they are MY09.

I think it was only mid-late last year that the CO2 came down to 138g and from memory (because Honda never send me any info ) that's the only change that there has been to the engine.

I should have mentioned I was talking about the facelift model (8th gen i think), i'd say there is of course differences between the i-ctdi and i-dtec alright.

But that CO2 info is very helpful R.O.R., thank you. Now it comes down to the colour and whether it's worth €2000 to go up a year.. I'm thinking of waiting a little longer to see what else pops up though. I think the 08 models were UK imports or demo models. The 08 I'm looking at is UK stock that my local dealer can get in for me.

€2,000 to get the colour you really want is a lot, unless the 08 is a manky colour. Wouldn't be too fussed about the year on the plate.

Yeah I agree. I'm really only into black/white or silver cars. I think all other colours just look washed out and dated very quickly. This particular one is blue and the one I want is black.

Anyway, i'm still negotiating and looking around so I'll keep my options open.. any opinions on the new model vs the previous model? I haven't test driven one yet but plan to do so on saturday.

If it's the blue I'm thinking of, I love that colour! Much better then silver IMHO.

I've only ever driven one new model, which was the ES spec, but I was very impressed. Seems lower and more planted than the old model, always felt the body roll on the older version was a lot more than other cars in that class, but the new model is a lot better.

Apart from that, the interior wasn't that much better in the new model. If you could save a fortune on the older version and get a decent exec or Type S, I'd give it serious consideration.

It's cobalt blue, i've only seen photos so far, and they look so dull. I've been googling though, and I've seen other blue's elsewhere and they look a lot nicer. I'd suspect that they would probably detail the car and give it a bit of sheen when it arrives in so I won't rule it out just yet.

I was happy with how the previous model handled so any improvement on that is definitely a bonus. I actually love the look of the new interior, buttons everywhere, heaven, always felt the old one was a real 'drivers' car..so much to do and see.. ;)

I'm only looking at high end exec spec with all the trimmings, I plan on keeping this one for a few years so want to make sure it has a lot of kit. The Type S is just out of my reach though at the minute. :o

I absolutely hate silver in cars. The most boring, half-assed cloudy day colour of all. Ruins so many nice looking cars.
I think the interior of the new Accord is very good to be honest. Be sure and check the history of any car you get anyway. A lot of dealers don't exactly find the most mint examples to bring in and sell on, they find the most profitable ones.

You have a point there, i'm just looking out at the carpark in work and there are some very bland silver cars outside, but on the right car I think it can look good.

The cars I'm looking at have stamps in their book every 12k-20k so not too concerned with their history. Plus one dealer is a friend of the family as well and in fairness has come back with one or two very decent deals, just mulling it all over at the mo.

That blue is very nice on the accords - think the grey/titanium alloys suit it better than bright silver.

Silver maybe a sheep choice, but it rarely looks dirty. Black will look dirty 2 miles down the road.

Co2 did drop, but I thought it was only last year that this happened. Remember, just because it may have dropped in 2009 in the UK, doesnt mean it did here, they could have had older model stock lying around for up to 2 years and selling them as new cars.

I think silver looks crap when washed and even crappier when dirty, all dull and mood-draining. At least a dirty black car just looks dirty!!
Shame on all you silver car buyers! I had to buy an almost silver car once, cause it was in the best condition of all that I was looking at. Bought it, thinking to myself why didn't they just pick another friggin colour? I'll always buy on condition and value rather than colour, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a nice colour! Or any colour... silver is really the absence of colour! :D

Silver also hides a multitude of light scratches and brush marks without showing. Its wonder paint ;)

You can go 2-3 times longer in a silver car without washing before it looks as dirty as another colour.

My old fella has a silver Accord, looks ok to me!

I've the facelift Accord Type S in the cobalt blue. Savage looking I think but then that may be just me. I love all the buttons inside too, and if ya turn down the brightness of the dash lights, they look like they float in the darkness!!

Anyway, the CO2 levels came down mid 2011 with the facelift model. Don't think the engine changed, but the wheels went from 17" to 16" and that brought it into Band B. The 16s look shocking small though on the car

Yep, looks OK. But every other colour in the Accord looks very good. OK is a long way from very good!

What about red? I don't like red cars but I seen one in red today at a good price full exec model, and thought it looked great. Surprised myself!

Drove one today also and loved it.

The emmissions for the 08 and 09 new shape Accord are identical, both are tax band C. The Accord diesel only got into tax band B last year with the introduction of the facelifted model.

Any chance you might post a pic?

I don't think the 2011-on model was much of a facelift, bar a few changes to lights and grille I haven't noticed much different from the 08/09-11 model, granted I only had a quick look yesterday.

I really like the side skirts and extra bodykit parts that come with the ES GT model, but don't want to buy an ES GT. Does anyone know if it's available to order for the exec model?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,479 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The Type S has a similar body kit but is higher spec than the ES. Not as high as the EX though.

Just updating the thread (as I always do) in case anyone is interested to know the outcome!

Needless to say I've learned a lot about the various models of the 8th generation accord since the 18th of january and I've made a decision..

In stark contrast to my initial reluctance to buy a blue car, I've gone with the majority vote and decided on a cobalt blue EX (2008), full of kit with a great service history too.

Thanks to everyone for their help and I am so glad to be back behind the wheel of an accord again.. I did look at similar priced BMW's and Audi's and just wasn't particularly interested in any of them (for the record).
