It's the same plane, circling. Tunisiair 737. Dunno why, probably testing. Check out radarvirtuel.com to see it.

I can see how one plane circled twice but the other trail seems separate, I'd say it was at least 2 planes.

Just one, his loops weren't exactly the same, one was a good bit different. Contrails are lasting a long time today too. He's gone out to sea now.

That's weird. Plane Finder for the iPhone shows that he stopped circling around 15 minutes ago and headed out over the Atlantic. Flightradar24 shows him still circling, however I could easily see the contrails earlier but can't now, making me think that Plane Finder might be the correct one. It's the same crowd as radarvirtuel.com.
Anyone down in Kerry confirm if he's still visible?

Edit at 16:54 - he just disappeared from Flightradar24.com now, so maybe that site updated.

Saw it outside earlier but have now had my blue sky allocation for 2012 it seems.

Anyone check if this is a test flight out of SNN?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭xflyer

No great mystery, obviously out on an airtest from Shannon Aerospace. They are customers.

Fuss over, on approach back to SNN

Good job we solved that mystery! There may have been trouble otherwise!

    Copied from Radio Kerry Website

Mystery of strange aircraft over Kerry revealed

The mysterious maneouvres of an aircraft seen in the sky across Kerry this afternoon have been explained by the Irish Aviation Authority.
People across the county got in touch with Radio Kerry about an aeroplane that was seen encircling the sky.
The craft has been spotted from Ballybunion down to Cahersiveen.
The Irish Aviation Authority says the aircraft which came from Shannon Airport is on a test flight.
A spokeswoman for the authority says it's a standard exercise by a craft.
She says it may continue its test flight over Kerry until around 6 pm or thereabouts before returning to Shannon.

Clearly a "slow news day" in Kerry.

61mph? Never knew it was possible for a plane to go that slow in the air. Cool.

Indeed it was a test flight out of shannon aerospace! This plane is no longer with Tunis Air though, its going to be a JetTime plane, has been painted in its new livery and everything!!
