    Hi.

Have a two year old Dell Inspiron that the charger has died on. Told they re 80 Euro to buy new....Are there any reliable secondhand options available to me? Battery replacement notification was on before this happened so I will need to buy one of those too. Seems pretty soon aftet only two years.

Advice in Cheaper options gratefully appreciated.
    Ruth.

Are you sure it's the charger that died? Some Dell laptops have a weak point where the socket is soldered to the mobo, and this can break.

    Hi Nick,

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say a huge thanks for telling me about laptopchargers.ie. They were great! I got my charger the next day and only paid 30 Euro including delivery. What a great service.

Would you happen to know where I can find a similar service for my Dell Battery, which now also needs to be replaced? (I won't be buying one of these makes again!)

    Hi Ruth,

In fairness to Dell, batteries usually die in a few years, 3-4 years is typical. Batteries gradually reduce in charge they can hold from day one, and this is the same across the board. At least Dell allow the user replace the battery themselves, unlike a certain other company!
Anyways you can get Laptop batteries on Ebay. No reccomendations as to who to buy from, just a bit of advise though, that compatible batteries may not be of high quality, and may be a fire risk. I know people that have baught batteries on ebay and have been ok, but if you do just remember to switch off the machine when not in use.
It would be very very rare for a compatible battery to go on fire, Sony actually make the batteries for most laptop models and even some of theirs went on fire a few years back. But its worth warning all the same.
If you can live with using the machine plugged in all the time that would be my advice :)

    Nick
