PPS NUMBER

I interviewed a Brazillian girl recently and agreed to take her on in Feb but in asking for the finer details there does seem to be a few things not right.
I was given some sort of PPS number letter that seems to be a made up photocopied version.
Also asked for her passport to verify her name and I was fobbed off with it being at her last residence, in another county.
How would I verify this girl or get the pps number checked to see if it`s legit?
    Thanks

You could ask the local revenue office to be sure- be careful befor eyou take her on- it's a pain to fix the situation retrospectively!

Ask for a copy of her stamp 2 visa, if she cant produce it then dont even bother going any further

    What are the implications?
Would I be fined for paying tax/prsi for the wrong person?
Or is a fine for illegal immigrats?
Like your other thread she was working for someone who would only pay her cash so no p45
I`d rather not be in any of those situations...

Surely with the amount of unemployed in the country you'd have no problems getting someone with the proper documentation. In your position I woudn't even contemplate hiring her.

+1 Especially if they are not being helpful about it.

    €250,000 fine and/or 10 years in Jail.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

Ask for a copy of her stamp 2 visa, if she cant produce it then dont even bother going any further

Stamp 2 is for students (allowed work 20 hours a week)

Stamp 4 could mean a range of things, including residency and therefore allowed to work

The PPS number isn't the most important thing.

Absolutely ask to see her passport (the full thing) and her immigration card. If she can't provide both, don't hire her. The stamps are a bit confusing, but if you've any queries, your local guards will help

Great! Where did you get the info?
I work in a specialised area where no Irish people trained in over the last few yrs and now will not train because they are used to higher wages so will not/ can not work for less than X amount

My than likely if she was working cash in hand for her last employer she is not legal in this country. You need to see her GNIB (Garda National Immigration Bureau) card which she should have. If she has permission to work here this should be a stamp 4 if she is a student stamp 2.
To the best of my knowledge someone in her situation has to have employment before they can be issued with a stamp 4. (I stand to be corrected on this.).

Why are you even bothering to employ her? With so many unemployed who would give their arm and leg to be employed I would tell her to take a jump somewhere and look for something else. Amazing that someone is being so uncooperative when they have been accepted for employment.

If she has Stamp 4, you are laughing. If she is on Stamp 1- she can work too if she has a green card/ work permit so it's best to get her to show the correct paperwork prior to taking her on!

just be careful with stamp 4, there are about 15 different types of stamp 4, and not all allow employment in all categories (Nurses on Work Authorisaion for example have stamp 4, but they can only work as Nurses).

In fairness, the official PPS letters can look a bit like made-up photocopied versions!

But you DO need to see her passport, and to assure yourself that the visa she has will let her work for you.

And in fairness, I'm finding it difficult to believe that you cannot find another suitable person from anywhere in Europe.

Be wary of those who say they'll work for less than X amount, esp if X amount is seen as the "industry standard". As said, get her passport and ensure that she can work here.

Simit and Jimulrich, picking a randomer off the dole is not how I`d like to run my business.
My own husband is unemployed so I`m not immune to those particular issues.
I didn`t come on here to advertise my business/vacancies just wanted to know what I`d be able to do to keep everything above board on the tax/prsi front..
Getting a look at the passport might help so...I`ll look into that Stamp 4..
Syco, I meant that people have not trained in "my" area over the last few years so when I was doing interview this girl is fully trained, experienced and ready to go. Most other candidates were really interested in this job but no qualifications so not an option. I wasn`t trying to get out of paying "proper" wages because she "foreign"
I`m going on maternity leave soon so waiting years for someone to qualify ain`t an option either ;)
