    Hey all,

So, I've been living in Dublin for just under a month now and still haven't a clue which way is up. I have a few photo shoots coming up in the next few weeks and wandering if anyone can recommend any decent locations around the city?

    Cheers

Are you looking for stops outdoors or studios?

Outdoors for the most part, definitely not a studio.

Actually does anyone know of any vintage style houses in the city that would allow you to use it as a location. There was a restored Georgian era house in Limerick (used for hosting events etc...) that I was trying to secure as a location a while back, but it never really went anywhere. Wondering if there's anything similar in Dublin.

    Just bumping this.

Anyone know of any rooftop locations around Dublin city that I could realistically get access to?

Also, still need help finding good indoor and outdoor locations with a vintage feel. I'm more than willing to sort out proper permissions and all that, it's just that I need some friendly Dublin locals to point me in the right direction ;)

The top of the car park in St Stephens Green shopping centre is higher than most buildings in Dublin and is open to you have a great view up there.
I've been up there taking pics of the city before. You might need proof of insurance etc. if you are up there with models though.

Cool, I'll keep that in mind. Cheers :)

Top of Blanchardstown Car Park would be easy to use too, if you gave them enough notice. It's dead after 6pm most days. That said, it gets VERY windy up there.

Up by the O2, is where I did a shoot recently enough:

It's nothing spectacular, but it's gritty enough for a change. It's also quiet up there, in terms of passers by, so you can shoot away without attracting an audience. Though once 6pm a guard came over and told us for our own safety, we should probably move on for fear of getting mugged.

If you're not too elaborately set up and you're not doing it for profit, the Phoenix Park is a treasure trove. http://500px.com/photo/4234194

Also behind Whelans on Wexford St., there's some walls with amazing and colourful graffiti. It's quiet enough there too, because there's building work going on in the places nearby and the road is now a cul-de-sac!

    Cheers, all great info.

When you went shooting in Phoenix Park, did you ask for permission first, or did you just chance your arm? I asked for permission there recently and I got absolutely nowhere with them. Same with the Museum of Modern Art. In fact the modern art crowd were just downright rude I must say :(

I just chanced my arm down the park. I applied for the permit, but I was told it would be 4-6 weeks before I got it. But I wasn't doing the shoot for anything other than the craic, so I just went down anyway.

Id have never applied to the Modern Art gallery, as I wouldn't have reckoned they'd allow it - but still seems a bit much being rude. Not exactly getting a great name doing things like that!

I have seen a shoot from the Natural History Museum though - you might try there. It might have been when it was closed for renovations, but it's worth a look. They always seem nice there.

Realistically, there are no shortage of locations in town that are empty. I'm sure you could come to an arrangement with some of the owners.

Anyone here know if it's possible to gain access to this place anymore?

I have a feeling it's probably all boarded up by now?

my mate got in there about 6 months ago, no problem.

It's all boarded up, but not very well. Hot got his camera in, but had trouble squeezing his bag and tripod through. He said it was falling to bits and that it's very hazardous. You wouldn't dare go upstairs in it either, because its not stable enough. He also found a load of cans and that at night it must be a drinking spot.

Not for me anyway, I reckon!

Yeah, I figured as much. It had the perfect look for what I'm working and all :( Oh well, the search continues I guess.

I don't suppose anyone knows of anything similar in aesthetics around Dublin?

There's a place between glasnevin and Phibsboro and its abandoned for AGES.
It's got a smaller looking place in it, but it looks safe enough - can't guarantee that though!
