    Hi there,

Could any of you guys give me a rough idea of what I should be paying an accountant to do my end of year tax return? I'm a sole trader and I was registered for VAT at one stage, but now I'm no longer earning enough.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. :)

    Cheers,

    G.

How long is a peice of string?

It depends on the level of work required, sources of income, complexity of matters etc., if you want to pm me more details I can give you a guide, but, it also depends on the level of service you are after, do you just want the returns done to comply with the requirement to file them or are you also looking for tax planning or business advice etc?

Reading between the lines (and I could be wrong) you are looking to go back to your accountant and get a reduction in fees, so why not approach them first and ask them for a quote, they know your file (or should anyway) and start from there.

    Thanks mate,

I guess the level of service I'm after is a pretty basic one. All I need is some bod to calculate and put in my return in at the end of the year, and and also see, where I can save some cash where possible, through my expenses, etc. I don't need any help with the VAT quarterly returns, as I'm not eligible anymore (But I was doing my own VAT returns anyway).

As I was saying, I'm a small sole trader that does not earn all that much. But I'd like to get an idea of what I should be paying (rough guestimate) as I feel that I'm may be paying over the odds at the moment. Especially as I provide a detailed breakdown of everything at the end of the year, so the accountant doesn't have to.

    Cheers,

    G.

So the accountant has to prepare a set of accounts as well, thats going to increase the level of work, depending on the records.

I'll send you a pm regarding a guesstimate.

Hey as the other people said it depends on the level of work. As a sole trader you dont really need an accountant a good bookkeeper/accountant who stays at home to mind kids could carry out the same work. if you want a few names Pm me and none will cost you anymore then 400e
