I work for a start up company down south and i am about to hire for the first time. How do I go about paying tax or PRSI etc for this person. Do I contact revenue or is that up to the new hire? Any help/advise would be gratefully appreciated

All up to you, I'm afraid. You will find information about it on revenue site. If you really know nothing at all about it, you should get an accountant involved, at least to get set up.

You will also need to consider how PAYE/PRSI is handled for yourself.
