Looking to take my father over as a present for his 70th B-day.

Any advice? Tickets are up there in the $$. Any deals going on?

    Thanks all.

    Try mygpticket.com

They were the cheapest when i was getting tickets for the Canadian GP a few years ago.

Definately make it to the practise and qualifying sessions. You'll see much more of the cars on those 2 days than you will in the actual GP.

Unless you are exceptionally tall, or willing to be the first people through the gate on GP day, buy grandstand seats. If you are standing you'll struggle to see anything.

Take a portable radio with earphones. You can tune it to the track commentary - if you don't, you won't have the faintest idea of what the hell is going on - it's just random cars blasting past you at various intervals without commentary.

Accommodation around the circuit is going to be expensive, so it might be better to travel from Coventry or Birmingham. Book as early as possible - that goes for rental cars too.

Looking at going to this myself, do a group form boards ever go?

Whats the best way to get to the track? Weekend parking is 76 euro ouch. probably not that bad compared to the public transport slog for 3 days

Join us in the motorsport forum for all things motorsport related. I would advise buying tickets from reputable suppliers! There is a sticky about tickets in the motorsport forum.

    Done!

I wouldnt worry at all about the view from the standing areas. I was working at the F1 and MotoGP last year and the standing areas were terrific with lots of room and nice banking on most areas. The section at Luffield is perfect for a big crowd and everyone could see everything.

THe new opening section is very good and the view for spectators is perfect, in fact myself and a lot of photographers were taking pictures from the spectator areas.

Becketts, Maggots and Chapel are the busiest corners as far as spectators are concerned but on the Friday you can easily stand here and see the most exciting corners on the track. The only corner that you wont have access to as a General Admission fan is Copse.

Does it have to be Silverstone ? Are you going from the UK or Ireland ?

I've been to a good few GP's and none can compete for atmosphere and drama like Monaco - if you were to only do one it would have to be Monaco ( in my experience )

And if you are prepared to do a little travelling it doesn't have to cost the earth either.

btw - I am only going on others experience on travelling to Silverstone, but I hear it can be a bit of a pain.

I hear ya. It was my father who suggested the UK. I can drive over and he has a cousin nearby that can provide acommodation etc.

    Now you have me thinking:)

    Thanks all.

Should I get a general admission ticket £187 for sunday or go for a seated area like the Village B for Sunday £354 (not sold out)?

    Weekends are a little more.

    Thanks

btw - the goodwood festival of speed is the weekend before.
You'll get to see all sorts of cars from all eras up close and personal, it's quite relaxed and very enjoyable, I felt I got a lot oout of the day. I would consider it over a GP I think, if you are into more than just watching them race.

having said that everyone needs to go to a GP at least once !
