Has anyone made the change from Civil Engineer to Actuary. I am a Chartered Civil Engineer (7yrs graduated) working for a contractor at the moment and have started a post grad in actuarial science, hope to pass CT1 & CT3 equivalent exams in April. Has anyone made this switch? Main reson for studying this is that the contracting side of construction isnt enjoyable anymore since the new public works contracts were introduced and i have always loved maths; really enjoying the course. I hope to combine both my engineering and actuarial qualifications in the future in a risk management role. Has anyone found work in this area having made the switch?

I moved from banking into actuarial. Less of a jump. Feel free to ask any questions if you feel it might still be relevant though.

Thanks for the reply Pythia, are you currently working through your exams with the institute. What's the job market for entry level like at the mo.

Clf, I also studied Civil Engineering and have now decided to go down the actuarial route.
I have heard from a few friends in the profession that i may be able to apply for 1 or 2 exemptions from the CT exams.
    Did you apply for any?

    hi timmey,

i went down the route of studying actuarial science via distance learning, i didnt apply for any exemptions as i felt i needed to brush up. I assumed the only exemption i would get was statistics, all of which i have forgotten since my BEng days. Iwill be sitting the CT1 and CT3 equivalents this month.
