Help getting from Galway to Westport

Hi all, I need to get from Galway to Westport on Friday afternoon leaving Galway around 3pm or 3:30pm. The BE website's journey planner doesn't seem to be able to calculate it and the only direct services I could find in their timetable doesn't leave until after 6pm. The train is equally useless with a back and forth journey via Athlone that's nearly 4 hours long.

Does anyone know of any private operators that serve this route directly? Or any suggestions that the BE journey planner missed?

No direct bus at that time.

However, there is a 1345 direct service arriving at 1550. Next direct service is at 1815 arriving at 2015 (service 456).

Alternatives are in short supply I'm afraid.

There is a 1600 route 64 service that arrives at Knock at 1720 and then you can catch a route 21 from the Main Street there at 1847 arriving Westport at 1950.

The only other realistic option is 1600 route 64 service to Ballyhaunis arriving there at 1710, and then train at 1807 from there arriving Westport at 1900.

Super thanks. Looks like no matter what way you connect, whether through Knock Airport, Castlebar, Claremorris or Athlone; it's a pretty inconvenient time of the day to be traveling :(

Private student bus here (Mondays and Fridays):

Runs from NUI Galway and GMIT, naturally.

Ring them and make sure they still exist, btw, I just googled it.

That's excellent, I missed that service - seems like it's still running. Might just do the trick.

There might even be a couple of private companies doing a run to/through Westport. (I'm not sure, just have a feeling.)

Every bus I've heard of is listed on the Galway Regional Buses page.
