They'd be much better then the little scissor jack that come with most cars anyway.

Tried to jack my Forester up with one, with the jack at full extension all four wheels were still resolutely on the ground.

Did you try it on the sills or diffs?

The upside of this is that you can probably scoot under the car without axle stands or a lift :D

I've one of them (dunno was it lidl or aldi) and it's way better to use for driveway mechanicing than the standard scissors jack. And those "half scissor" jacks are awful yokes!

I got one with the axle stands last time they were in. Used it for the first time when I was changing out the fuel filter on Saturday. It's not garage quality or anything, but it was way ahead of the one that comes with the car in terms of handiness and speed. Used the jacking points on the sill and it was high enough for me. Axle stands could be a bit higher, but the extra security is very welcome

Changed an exhaust with one of these, and used it a dozen or so times on other things..there not too bad as long as you take the proper precautions.

..I am however in the market for something more heavy duty

I think you misunderstood me, or you've revealed a spontaneous suspension fail shocker in Foresters ;)

If the forester is high enough that a hydraulic jack won't lift it under the diff, then unless you've been eating an phenomenal amount of pies you will be able to crawl under it without lifting anything off the ground

don't forget you can increase the lift of your jack with a few blocks of wood .

Just don't forget the axle stands...I have been know to use 6 at a a time...

I've got a Lild trolley jack and axle stands

The trolley jack is fine for cars but is a fraction of a low lift. The annoying thing is that it drops slowly over time. I've discoverd this recently when checking the brakes. I jacked up the car and went off to get the axle stands before taking off the wheel (I know I hadn't everything ready when I started!). By the time I came back with axle stands, the car was back on the ground.

True that. €15 Lidl Axle stands saved me when a more expensive trolley jack from our local hardware shop gave way. Not fun.

thats faulty...don't even think of getting under it without stands.

How high is the Forester? I used them on my Expert van when had it. Actually left it jacked up in the garden for about 2 months at one stage. Obviously the seals in the jack went a coupl eo fmonths after but sure the same would happen with any jack.

The one I still have catches and lifts my Xantia's with the suspension on high. I can get some axle stands under them without useing a jack so it reasonably high to begin with.

Could be that the nut isnt being tightened back in properly after its lowered too. If you dont tighten it properly the air leaks back out.

There's a little knob on the jack that varies that. Make sure it's fully to the right otherwise the jack'll settle back down. Hard to move the knob too.

Why do you think I was getting an axle stand?

    That was fully tightened alright.

I'n not too worried about it as all I want it to do is to hold it long enough to change a wheel. Anything else and the axle stands are used.

I got one for changing the wheels and doing small jobs. You get what you pay for. It saves me wasting a few extra minutes with the damn thing that came with the car. So ****ing annoying spending so long trying to jack it up with that. Was worth it for that alone!

I have one about 4 years now and its still holding up (although i remember paying around €15 for it at the time) Ive done countless work on my cars with it and even moved a wooden barna building with a couple of them, ya cant go wrong!

You can get a mcanax one for 25 quid in irish auto parts

    Probably a better option?
