Transferring insurance?

So in the hope i get my license back friday, thinking of taking out my own policy on the family car which is 1.2.

What would my insurance jump by if I was to transfer my insurance to something bigger in say 2-3 weeks after insuring it on the 1.2? Alot?

Or would it be the same as taking out a new policy on the bigger engined diesel car.

Or would i be better off with open insurance on the 1.2 and driving the bigger car with the open insurance or how would this work??

    Thanks :)

How long is a piece of string? Your question is the exact sane as mine. Call Insurance companies and Brokers.

I heard a story from someone who had just got their license back after a conviction for drink driving. Insurance quotes were ridiculous, they didn't bother. A year later, the quotes had gone down, quotes were more sane, so they got a car and insurance etc at that point.

I'd also imagine some insurance companies have guards against piss-taking with open insurance. Or that getting "any car driven by the Insured" would add significantly to your costs, this being a function of your particulars. (Basic insurance only covers you, in your stated car).

I remember when I first got my drivers license (from provisional, passed test) some insurance companies would not even quote me for a big-ish diesel car simply because I had no NCB, so I ended up getting insurance for my car from the company my mother was insured with (named driver) and had significant "driving credit" with.

And this was all with a 100% clean driving history.

My advice, don't even think about the big diesel for now, get a quote for the cheapest car to insure, drive it for about a year, then trade up for the car you want and use the NCB with your insurer plus the increased length of time since the ban to reduce your quote.
