Iv recently bought a mk5 sdi golf and its very rough sounding when starting cold is this normal? As my previous car was an A4 and there was always the same.

Diesels are normally rattly, but even more so on cold starts.

Was the A4 diesel?

yea the A4 was 1.9tdi and the golf is like a tractor towards it.
