    Hello,

Well someone actually burned by car! I thought it was something that was only done for making fraudulent claims, but apparently not.

I'm going to have to deal with my insurance company now and I would like to know how much I should expect to get from them and how long I should expect to be left waiting? Its a Navy 2001 2 door Ford Focus 1.6 Petrol.

    Thanks

What a bizzare thread... I'd imagine very little, maybe 1000 euro? You will only get the current market value for it unless you can prove it was in better condition or worth more. As for what it's worth now, that all depends on how badly damaged it is....

Also, bear in mind that if it was bad enough for the fire tender to be called out, it will cost in the region of 450 euro, depending on which county council area...

Would they find the value based on trade prices or private prices (autotrader)

Probably somewhere inbetween. There's a magical 'book' value which is compiled monthly based on the market behaviour. One thing you can be sure of is they'll offer you less than it'd cost to replace it. Don't take the first offer.

Find examples of the model with similar age/mileage for sale and present that to the insurer as evidence of what it'll cost you to replace the vehicle. Ideally insurance is supposed to cover the cost of you replacing the vehicle, but they'll try and beat you down on this.
